Default 2013 Toyota Tundra vs 2013 Ford F150 with Ecoboost

Hi all.Not sure if there is a thread for this already but I'm asking you guys and gals, if you have had any experiences, either have driven,considered, or have owned any of these two trucks? Pros and cons between the two vehicles? It will be a first time for us to buy a truck, and it's driving me bonkers! We currently own a Pilot but we need an adequate hauler with relatively good gas mileage ( i know it's truck!).Any thoughts? Ford has great rebates but crappy rates (4.99% APR), and Toyota has no rebates but good rates (0.9%).Thanks!

The buzz on the Eco-boost I hear is awesome. I know a couple guys that own them, and they frikkin love that engine. One guy I know is towing a huge boat, and he says it out hauls his old V8 truck by wide margin. It doesn't surprise me as at our altitude, anything turbo charged feels way more powerful than an equivalently powered vehicle without boost. Also most modern day turbos generate ridiculous amounts of low end tourque. If I was buying a pickup, I would certainly be looking at the Eco boost.

Hold on. Are you sure you didn't mean to call him a dbag with white sunglasses and an affliction tshirt?

I wouldn't expect good mileage with the Tundra, they are pretty bad in that regard. The Ecoboost would be the way to go in my opinion.

I have a 2007 Tundra and I love it. Honestly you probably should just go and drive both and see which you like better, in my opinion neither model is really head and shoulders above the other one. Like everyone else has said though, the Ford would probably be better on gas.

If you can wait the 2014 Tundra has been redesigned and from the pictures I have seen it looks great.

F150 can tow up to 11000lbs
Tundra - up to 8000lbs

Tundra has had frame issues as well. If you are buying a full size truck, buy American.

my thoughts on each vehicle are as follows:

* the F150 is a ford
* the Tundra is not

end of thought

Not sure where you are getting that number from, but it's not right. The Tundra can pull up to 10,400lbs.

Also the only F150 that can pull 11,000lbs is the 6.2L Raptor.

Edit: looks like I could be wrong about the Raptor only comment.

Toyotas are just another domestic now. The quality has dropped substantially on them since moving their production to North America, and they have been caught hiding recalls by fixing them unannounced when customers were getting routine maintenance. All so their precious JD power rating wouldn't drop. Toyota is far from what they used to be, and the same goes for Honda.

Following the sentiments, if you are buying a full size truck. American is the way to go.

One of my neighbours has an F150 with Ecoboost and loves it, but he is also paying through the teeth to own it.

I liked the ecoboost a lot, but it was more money than I wanted to spend. What tow capacity are you looking for?

Have you considered the GM/Chevy Sierra/Silverados? I just got a 2012 Silverado over Christmas and have really liked it so far. As far as fuel economy goes, I'm getting better mileage with my 5.3L than I did with my 4.0L ranger. I believe that the 5.3L gets around the same mileage numbers as the ecoboost, but doesn't quite have the same towing capacity.

Thanks for all the comments so far. We don't have anything to tow at the moment but we want an option down the road.

Bought a 2012 F150 FX4 with the Ecoboost and it is the best vehicle I have ever owned period. The Ecoboost is powerful and fun to drive and I could go on forever about all the other goodies Ford has in there. The Toyota got a look but not much of one after checking out the Ford.

I currently have a 2010 F150 and am trading it off to get the new Ecoboost engine as well. Seriously take one for a test drive, they are awesome. I can't say anything towards the Toyota as I've never driven one but I think you will be more than happy with the Ford.

They Toyotas are just plain too ugly. Engines and reliability aside, I couldn't stand seeing that thing in my driveway every day.

All of the first hand accounts of the ecoboost I've read is that it isn't much better on gas than the regular V8.

If you want to have something to drive after 200k, I'd look at a Toyota over a Ford every time.

I have a 2012 F-150 I use as my work truck. It's not an Ecoboost (it's just the standard V6, which has more than enough power for what I use it for). I went to the F-150 after having a Toyota Tacoma for four years. I found the value in Ford to be better than Toyota in general. I also really like Sync. I vote for F-150...they're awesome trucks.
