Train derailed in Bonnybrook
Avoid Deerfoot this morning.
http://www.660news.com/2013/06/27/tr...down-deerfoot/
Quote:
Police, fire and EMS are on scene at a structural failure of the Bonnybrook rail bridge over the Bow River.
The City of Calgary has closed Ogden Road between 42nd and 50th Avenues and Deerfoot Trail between Glenmore Trail and the Calf Robe Bridge in both directions.
|
More info.
Quote:
The bridge in Ogden is in danger of collapsing, and is apparently coming apart in two places.
There is a train on the bridge, and there are fears that the structural damage could cause it to fall into the water – or that its cargo could leak.
Police have the whole area blocked off, and warn it could be dangerous to be nearby.
Deerfoot Trail is closed in both directions between Glenmore Trail and 17th Avenue
Deerfoot Trail & Ogden Road is closed.
Ogden Road is also shut down at the following locations:
17 Street
50 Avenue
Millican Road

Avoid glenmore at all costs. The lineup to get nb on 52 from Glenmore is miles long. Traffic is massive between deer foot and Ogden road on Glenmore EB.

This bridge goes under Deerfoot, I wonder if they closed it as a precaution.

Looks like CP is really getting pooched by this flood. They have been working to fix washouts in Canmore and near Edworthy, now this between Ogden and Alyth.

@markusoff
Burrell: we've inspected all city-owned bridges. CP bridge is a federal bridge. Outside scope of city's bridge.

I picked a bad day to try and make it downtown from McKenzie Towne. Stuck on the bus, after going through a detour in the foothills industrial. On Memorial now and barely moving. They aren't letting traffic from Paigan onto NB Deerfoot.

So... Now it looks like they've blocked WB Memorial over Deerfoot?
Edit: one lane getting through. Avoid WB Memorial if you're coming in from Foothills Ind.
Edit 2: They just opened it up again. Weird.

Left shortly after 6 this morning on the 117 express bus, and actually got to work faster than I ever have before.
Apparently the Road King truck stop is being evacuated. I don't have any link, because Internet is down at work, but my Mom works a block or so away and has been advised that they may have to leave as well.

I think they are afraid of an explosion.
This rail goes under deerfoot, they have a 1 mile radius evacuation notice, aka a circle.
To me that doesn't sound like fear of a leak or trying to repair a bridge, that sounds like an explosion radius.

Hard to tell from the overhead if there is a pillar at the point of failure of the bridge. If there is it looks like the pillar has failed.
Edit: Doesn't look like there is a pillar there.
