Default Things that make you feel old

So my venerable old inkjet printer died today just as I was doing my taxes. So, I hoped in the car and went down to the future shop to pick up a new printer. And there it was a all in one color laser printer, the price . . . $299.00

It doesn't feel that it was that long ago that color laser printers were worth 5 figures and had a lower resolution, and a 4 ppm rate of printing.

Then I realized that I actually hadn't seen the inside of a bank in about 10 years because I do everything through the interweb. There used to be a perverse pleasure to going to the bank with cash and checks in hands to do deposits, make investment decisions with the help of a friendly manager and take out a weeks worth of money.

Man I'm suddenly older then my old man.

Oh yeah, and today's beebop electronic auto-tuning music is just awful.

The NHL draft. Just shocks me when I see the birth dates of those kids. Which is a shocking feeling, given that I'm only 27

I cleaned out my storage room a couple weeks ago and found a box of some old mixed tapes and VHS video's.
I remember the time it took to make each one, comparing that to a couple second download to your phone now I can't believe as a teen I had the patience to make so many!

A couple of years ago I was kibitzing with one of the younger ladies in the office on a topic relevant to our jobs (seriously) and mentioned I'd written a paper on the topic back in 1984.

"I wasn't even born then!!," exclaims she.

We both laughed uproariously. In all honesty, I've usually been the youngest doing anything in most places for a long, long time but that was really the first time in my life I actually felt old. One of those moments of clarity we all have.

And last year I was offered a seniors discount for the first time (not quite eligible yet!!).

Still got all my own teeth and ran a marathon last month. Not dead yet.

I am old (I'll be 60 in Sept), but I don't feel old. I still workout for an hour a day. I just tell people that I'm not old - I've just been young for a long time.

I remember my first job at an Architect's office in Vancouver - back in 1974. It was the first time in my life that I saw a photo copy machine - it was the size of a small car - LOL.

Leafs being in the playoffs again...when I look at what has transpired in my life, and how much life in general has changed since the last time they made it, I realize just how many years have gone by.

Not sure if it's a "Man I'm old" thing:

Yesterday I realized I am the same age my mom was when I graduated high school and my daughter is only 3 years old.

And when I compete in Lifesaving Sport, I compete against kids half my age.

I was conversing with the life guards at my local pool this morning when the discussion of how old I was came up. The 3 gals guessed I was just a shade under 40 years old which made me smile. When I told them my actual age they all gasped and said I was old enough to be thier fathers. But, but, but your skin is sooooo soft they said and you relate so well with the younger generation.

I went to my 25 year high school reunion a while ago, and I felt old. A lot of the skinny dudes in high school filled out, and a lot of the jocks in school got obese. Same with a lot of the skinny girls I had a crush on. Most are huge now. Oddly enough, I'm only 19lbs heavier now than I was in high school, over 25 years ago. A few even have grand children.

When your grandkids start University.

When you look in the mirror.

When all the guys on CP seem so young...even the 60 year olds.

When you check the obits to see if you are there.

When I hear Nirvana and Pearl Jam being played on Q107.

Nirvana's Nevermind album came out September 24th of 1991.

When I realized I was older than Alex Tanguay.

All hockey players should be older than me, simple as that.

That reminds me. Back in the 2007 playoffs, when Scott Niedermayer had his big grey playoff beard going, I was curious about how old he was because he looked like a grizzled old man. So, I looked him up and found out that he's two weeks younger than I am.

That was like a gut punch.

I know exactly what you mean. I just turned 28 not that long ago and it just doesn't sound right when you read that so and so prospect was born in 1995.

Right when drafted players are younger than me was when I started feeling old.

For that reason, Joel Lowry will forever be my favourite prospect.
