Default Sign McGrattan, already

And no, this has nothing to do with "the move" against Anaheim. McGrattan is huge, tough, a good team guy and a totally decent hockey player for an enforcer. He's done great work ontbe forecheck as a 4th liner, providing good solid grinding on the cycle, and on a team of smurfs is a desperately needed physical presence. 2 years at league minimum would keep the young'uns safe until they learn to take care of themselves.

He is also the kind of guy that will work hard whenever he steps on the ice.

I'd re-sign him for 2 years at 800K each

I've never really thought he was a liability on the ice at any time this season. I'll be very disappointed if he isn't re-signed

I think we need him on the team next year if we ice a young roster. He's shown he's probably the most capable hockey player for a goon we've had since Simon.

Godard could fight, but not play.
Roy could play, but not fight.
McGrattan does both, and is probably one of the most feared in the league to boot!

Yeah, it's not that easy to come by a guy that can take down heavy-weights and not be a liability on the ice. I'm hoping to see him back.

Indeed, re-sign McGrattan! I think he should bring back the hair

Won't be any ifs about it I don't think. My main concern is he's played himself into a mini bidding war as a UFA. I think the guy is more valuable than most realise.

Don't forget his two-game scoring streak!

But yeah, I agree. He'd be useful to have around for at least one more year.

I say we need both McGratton and Jackman signed for another couple of years. Hell I didn't even mind the Begin signing and I still don't, sign the whole 4 th line for 3 years for 9 million.

But seriously, just look at the Oilers to see what happens when you don't take that role serioulsy enough to fill it with capable people.

no brainer - they need to re-sign him

wouldn't do a two-year though. These kind o guys accept that they get one-year contracts, so no point adding risk to it

I would MUCH MUCH rather have Bouma playing than Begin

Kristen Hallet agrees...it seems from casual observation that she's interviewed him much much more than any other player since he got here.

He loves it here, he plays a valuable role, he can keep up with play, skating wise, but can fully lay the beatdown when patted on the back to do so.

As ok has Jackman has played since the trade deadline, his first half was poor, and IMO, guys like Jackman are a dime a dozen to find. I know he has another year, I just hope him having that contract does not push McGrattan out.

Guys like Bouma, Aliu and I guess Jackman can play a much more effective agitator role if they don't have to be the designated fighter.

McGrattan and Begin both need to be resigned. Begin has amazing work ethic. Both of his fluke goals against detroit, while maybe being flukes, were a result of amazingly hard work.

Agreed, and you need that, to rub off on the young guys. When he signed people were pissed, but like I said then, he is a guy that brings it every shift, unlike a lot of regulars we had suiting up at that time.

I'm on the McGrattan bandwagon. He also has some particular life experiences that could be useful for a team that is going to be full of wealthy young people.

I really want them to sign McGrattan as well. "He's just such a cool guy."

We don't need Jackman, as much as we really need McGrattan. No McGrattan = kids get beat up.

Jackman is not in the same league as far as fighting and intimidation, and both have similar on ice playing ability. Jackman pi$$ed me off when our goalies kept getting ran and he just watched and was more concerned with trying to do his Tony Amonte impression every shift. I would waive Jackman and see if there are any takers

Bouma for Begin, sorry Steve..
