No surprise. Hartely on last nights post game interview said it did not look good. Get rested Glencross, flames need you healthy for next year.

yeah there is absolutely no advantage to having him tough it out for any more games, and he also didn't appear to have his knee shredded or anything, he should be 100% next year

I was really surprised Grats didn't have a chat with Lovejoy later in the game. Cheap hit and then fed Backlund a couple knuckle sandwiches. Love Backlund's response though, really is a great building block going forward.

Yah, I think Mcgratton should have jumped him, but I think the team was very focused on winning the game last night in case it was Kippers last.

Backlund potentially captain material?

He didn't hesitate going after Lovejoy for a second when Glencross got hit. He competes hard every game, has a great attitude, and from all accounts loves playing for the Flames

Oh and he's young.

No, at least not yet. No reason to put that kind of pressure on him. Maybe when Giordano is gone.

Agreed. Backlund is just finally showing signs of coming into his own. Let him finish developing his game without the extra burden of captaincy.

This isn't an awful idea, but not yet. Not at least for another couple of seasons.

You also forgot to add that he despises the Canucks.

McGrattan did go and challenge Lovejoy. Lovejoy was not interested, can't blame him I guess. I respect a guy like Jared Cowen who when challenged by a heavyweight in Westgarth did not decline.

I was hoping someone like Sarich or Jackman (more Lovejoys size/toughness) would have went right at him and left him no choice. Don't care about the shorthanded stuff.

Credit to Backlund for sure.

So... I'm guessing Lovejoy has no need to worry about further discipline?

Does anyone else find it weird that whenever Flames players get injured by dirty/questionable plays, you never seem to hear a peep from the media/NHL? I'm not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but it does seem odd to me.

Like even when there's a questionable hit that ends up not being punished, the media at least talks about it, and then the NHL usually responds by saying, "we've looked into it and determined there will be no action taken". With the Flames (stajan/glencross etc) it seems to be a bit of a "if a tree falls in the forest" scenario going on, imo. Maybe because of the later games out west?

imo, if that hit, or multiple Stajan injuries from hits happen at 5:30 against an eastern team on HNIC, they at least get a public reaction from the NHL.

God love Backlund, but as soon as Lovejoy said no thanks to McGratton somebody should have punched Getlzaf or Perry out.

Or run over their goalie.

If your going to throw a dirty hit and your not willing to pay the price then the price is going to have to be paid elsewhere.

I agree but I think they were trying to get a win for Kipper versus accepting they are a non playoff team. But oh my, things like what Backlund did and the identity this team is starting to show post dead line is so refreshing. I've always cheered for this team, but to be honest I haven't liked what this team became (not just because of results) for a few years now. I'm starting to like these guys again.

I said it before, but I see Backs as a strong candidate for one of the 'A's next season. He has skills, speed and smarts, but most importantly he has heart.

Shame about Glenncross. I'd say it helps our tanking chances, but the youngsters keep playing so well that it might actually improve our record to have another vet out of the lineup...

If the league hasn't said anything, the Flames should be making a call. We've seen Glencross and Stajan suspended for less and we've seen them lost to injury for worse that went unpunished.

So it is official. His season is over, 4-6 weeks. It was a dirty hit. Where is Shanahan? This is BS.
