Vigneault to be named Rangers HC
He told Dallas tonight he is withdrawing his name from consideration for the Stars.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 34m With Alain Vigneault withdrawing himself from DAL job, expectation is he has an offer to coach NYR tho no one has officially confirmed that.

This will be great when Tortorella gets the Canucks job.

Huge upgrade on Torts if true. I know most Canuck fans don't like him, but his track record is pretty good. 6 division titles, 2 President's trophies, 1 Stanley Cup final appearance, etc.
Good for NYR.

He is a really good coach who can adapt his gameplan to that of the team that he is coaching as evidenced by his time with the Canucks and how he shifted from being an offensive run and gun team, to more of a defensive first team after the loss of a key cogs in Ehrhoff as well as the general aging of the team. Canuck fans were upset that he didn't continue to play the offense first approach while ignoring the fact that he just didn't have the guns anymore.

Glad he's out of the west. Really good coach, the Nucks overachieved IMO under AV, not unlike how the Flames overachieved with D.Sutter as coach.

I believe in the Jays.

I dislike the Rangers and thus dislike this rumour... Vigneault is a damn good coach.

Should just be a courtesy because he has zero experience coaching at any level.

He has 6 Stanley Cup rings. I think he knows something about winning.

Would be interesting to see. The pressure will be all on Vigneault to perform very rapidly if he go the job.

Winning as a player doesn't mean he'll win as a coach, Wayne Gretzky is an example
AV is a ######, but a better coach less of a ###### than Torts. It should be a step in the right direction for NY

If true my burning questions are:
1. How well can Lundquist drop like he was shot?
2. How many games before Richards is out with a hip injury from diving?
3. Will Marc Staal suddenly become a whiny maggot like Bieska is?

good pick up for the rangers if true. On an unrelated point, how much do NHL head coaches make annually?

Good hire for the Rangers. I think he'll be able to coax enough extra offence out of their lineup to get them to the cup finals in the next 2-3 years. AV tends to get his top players to produce and he's got a good deep lineup to work with.

My understanding is AV's approach to accountability is 180 degrees from Tort's...I think this is a perfect move for the Rangers...the players will respond well out of the gates, I think.
