Default Penguins-Bruins game cancelled

The NHL has cancelled tonight's Penguins-Bruins game due to the manhunt of a suspect.

The game has been rescheduled hopefully for Saturday afternoon.

The Red Sox game has also been cancelled.

As I said in the off topic forum, they should play the remainder of their home games in a near by out of town location. Maybe in Hartford or New York.

This game isn't cancelled due to issues with the arena, it's cancelled because there's a manhunt in the area. Unless you expect that manhunt to take multiple days that doesn't make sense.

They should play in a neutral third-party venue. That would be cool.

And behind closed doors, so it'd be an empty rink. That would make for some spooky TV.

Well yeah, but what if this man-hunt takes longer than a few more hours?

They already extended the Bruins season by one day with the rescheduled Senators game. I wonder if they will out right cancel this game. Both teams are clearly in the playoffs so it wouldn't mean much.

It would depend on the impact on the standings. They cancelled the last Celtics game because it wouldn't effect the standings, it's far from clear that will be the case here.

You do when that team is Boston.

Not a chance that this game gets cancelled. Absolutely will not happen.

Hell, the Bruins will want it cancelled, they get less rest than every other playoff team, but I just cant see the NHL doing it.

Then why did the NBA cancel a Celtics game?

So you're arguing that Celtics ownership isn't interested in money? I know everyone likes to hate on Jacobs, but that's ridiculous.

I dont know jack about the Celtics or the NBA. I do know that Jacobs is one of the heavy hitters in terms of NHL ownership. Perhaps the same is true of the NBA, I cant make any comparison argument.

Further to the point though, we're already playing a 'circus sideshow' 48 game season and now, two teams that are favourites to win the cup would only play 47? What happens if its a Pens/Bruins ECF? What if one of them wins the cup?

Most people would understand that 1 game wont make any difference, but again you're playing with the integrity of the schedule.

What would be the though process around cancelling the game. I assume simply concerned this individual might attempt another mass attack? I would think though it would be likely he'd steer clear of a crowd of that size at this point, given the police presence there and the fact that the whole world knows what he looks like. He'd be identified in seconds if he stepped foot in that arena, he also might be lucky if he made it out alive.

I'm no expert on these things, but this seems a little excessive to cancel, not because the mangnitude of the occurances doesn't warrant it, but because I don't like the idea that idiots like this guy can continue to have a lingering impact on innocent peoples lives. I don't think the risk is really high he'd attack the Bruins game, and the sooner people get back to life as normal, the more it shows these morons that they don't really make a difference in the world with their idiotic antics.

That said, very easy for me to say sitting across the continent, see how i feel if something like that ever happened here.

I dont think it has anything to do with the situation in Boston, but more that the league would have to push back the entire playoffs because Boston still had regular season games to make up.

Its a scheduling thing.
