Default water damages at property

Currently, I am renting a main floor of town house. So today morning there was a fire alarm which was due to a loose pipe probably my fault (I was testing it last week and didn't tight it properly). Fire alarm was due to water which seep in basement alarm. So fire department came in and broke our landlord door. Also made a big hole in dry wall to get that seeping water out. We inform our landlord who will be driving from kelowna. I feel guilty for it, can I pay through my home insurance for his damages. They are nice landlord don't want to give them any trouble. Any suggestions

lol, wow, interesting.

You were testing a pipe? What the heck does that mean?

Could be a liability payout. Only way to know for sure is to call your insurer.

Want to make nice with your landlord?

- Pay for everything, even if insurance doesn't cover it (as you were the cause, not an accidental break)
- He gets to choose the contractors to fix.
- You take time off of work to let contractors in.
- Don't ever touch plumbing/electrical/gas again.

Yikes. Don't mess with plumbing or electrical if you don't know what you're doing. Good chance this will sour your relationship with your landlord, especially if you were messing around with stuff you shouldn't have.

You need to tighten the fittings with a wrench when hooking up the bidet hose.

Sounds like he installed a bidet, which isn't something a landlord would (typically) do.

If a tenant was installing a bidet or similar I'd require the tenant to have a professional do the install (or at least I will now!!).

Will the insurance cover it if it wasn't installed correctly?

If your insurance doesn't cover it gladaki you should pay for whatever is required out of your own pocket.

As for how much it could cost, if it's the front door that could many hundreds depending on the kind of door. Hole in drywall can be a hundred or more to replace drywall, tape, mud, prime, paint. If there's no matching paint then more since whole sections of wall would have to be painted so it matches.

If there's water in the walls then also have to make sure everything dries out properly so there's no mould.

Ive see quotes for this from disaster restoration companies that will charge $1500 for this. Its absurd.
