Default Sanibel Island Florida

My husband and I are going there this week for our niece's wedding. We are staying at Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort and Spa, which is where the wedding is.

I've never been to Sanibel Island. I've been to Ft. Myers and to Florida several times but never to the Island.

Can anyone recommend decent places to eat? We are looking for a crab shack kind of place with great seafood. Everyone keeps telling us that we 'have' to go to Captiva to 'The Bubble Room' but it looks like a kitschy tourist trap with long waits and crappy food.

Thanks for any input.

Well a lot of people complain about the Bubble Room. There were 2 others, one was in St Augustine and another in Central Florida. Those locations were newer and apparently the Captiva one is past its prime. Being a vegetarian (sorry to those offended by that statement) I could really never find a good meal there. But if you like Red Velvet Cake, theirs is absolutlely the best. I only know of one other that comes close. I think they also have an orange cake, I cant remember. If it isn't crowded and you like cake you might check it out. Some people like the kitsch, but I've read so many horrific reviews of the place as it is now that I dont know what to tell you. It used to be cute.

I haven't been to Captiva/Sanibel in so long I don't know what to tell you about the other places. They may even be long gone by now.

By the way, did they invite Swampee?

I'd bet that the forums on Trip Advisor will be of far greater help.

My mom is a fan of this place:

Never had the breakfast, but the food was decent - in a US kind of way. Their chowder was great.

I was just staying in Fort Myers for a week. Headed up to Sanibel for a day trip. Nice place.

Happened upon this nice family restaurant called Rosie's Cafe & Grill.

Had very few expectations, but it was actually quite good. You could tell the owner actually knows how to properly cook and cares about food.

I would recommend against The Island Cow - it is average at best.
