So on my bucket list is attend a game in every City. This weekend I was able to cross off 12/13 (Chicago and St. Louis) off my list. While I was waiting to board the flight home I had some spare time to kill so I had a beer in the lounge, which is where I noticed Pierre walk in.
I decided to go up to go up to him & introduce myself and talk a little hockey, this is what he had to say:
He'd LOVE to be the GM of the Calgary Flames and thinks it would be a fun job. I asked if he'd actually want to do that, and he said absolutely.
First thing he'd do if the GM would be acquire a centre.
Thinks Calgary has been overvaulting their prospects for a long time.
Thinks the Jankowski pick was a massive mistake, and he really emphasized this. We both talked about how TT was there for the taking but Feaster passed.
Would take Barkov over MacKinnon; but would take Jones 1st overall.
The guy was so easy to talk to, not intimidating at all. Asked me tons of questions and came off as very genuine - He even dropped some F bombs on me.
Anyways, thought this would be something fun to read/discuss.

He hated when they traded down, but when Jankowski was picked him and Bob both seemed pretty meh about it. McGuire said he was happy that Lou Jankowski's grandson got picked, but I don't remember him offering any praise for the pick
He also hated the Carey Price pick

Thankfully the Flames should be able to draft a pretty awesome Centre in about 10 weeks.
In the top 10 of THN's draft ranking are:
2. Nathan MacKinnon
4. Valery Nichushkin
5. Sasha Barkov
6. Sean Monahan
7. Elias Lindholm
Also, I believe in the long run Jankowski will be a good pick. He did well in his first year with 18 points in 34 games for Providence. He is still very young (will be 18 until September).

At the start - "ooh baby, this is a legendary pick, this is good"
1:40 - "This is an amazing pick"

macguire knows less and less about the flames, and has become (if he wasn't always) your standard eastern conference only type media guy, so do take little to no stock in anything he really has to say.
He had a man crush on phaneuf, and phaneuf is basically a overrated, decent 2nd pairing dman. on that alone, i'd completely ignore any take he has on jankowski.

Sounds like that first reaction is more stunned than anything else, and it was a legendary pick in that it was off the board and a guy out of high school hockey. The part where calls it an amazing pick comes as part of praising the way Jankowski has worked to get where he is and the backstory of his bloodlines. You're just cherry picking lines without context.

No, I'm really not. He called it an amazing pick, then stated it would take a while to pay off. Something that I agree with.
