I like the way the young guys are playing. Without regards to the names, I hope this team brings back the identity as 'a tough team to play against'.

To early to say now, but it looks good so far.

Why do you think Reinhart needs to add more strength? He's a beast out there already.

I guess more strength won't be a bad thing but he definitely doesn't need to.

"Any Flames vs. Oilers game that ends with the Oilers fans booing their own team is a fantastic game in my books."

Yes.

I felt he was getting pushed around a little bit.I think adding it would help him be even more effective.

Brodie was great. Sarich was rock solid, sets a very good example. These 2 guys taking more minutes is strongly related to why the team is better defensively post #4

Street looked like an AHLer on the Oil goal. When Brodie was boxed out by Jones, he came in to pitchfork a puck he thought was pinned against the boards only to find it being skated out front on his arrival.

Solid game all around across the team for the most part.

Yes. Sarich takes way too much flak here. He's a steadying influence and could be a strong part of a rebuild if he can stomach it.

Stempniak: What'd he say?
Baertschi: Why you no celebrate for first goal?

I never could figure out why he has been benched the last 2 years for the scrubs they replaced him with, he's really the only D after Regehr left that plays with a physical edge and clears the net, it's not like he's slowed down...he's never been fast. but he's been effective.

Thanks for the writeup. One wish for the format though. I would love to still have in the game takes is the line combinations.

If there's a better source for them out there, maybe someone can point it out for me, but so far I've used CP as my source for that stuff, and especially now that there's been a lot of injuries and movement I'm really out touch with what our lines actually are. I've also used game takes as an archive for games played years ago.

I hope Oiler fans are pissed off. Calgary has started to ice their rebuild and this type of game happens.

Wideman's goal was awesome.

Play of Backlund has wondering where the limit is with this player. Hartley is doing something right and I hope it continues.

This.

Such a satisfying sound. Mulletville losers giving up on their team of 'young superstars'. Their team showed exactly ZERO character. Our youngsters, though not as highly touted, have character, grit & skill. Perhaps it's time for a re-re-rebuild up north?

Over 106 minutes combined played last night by Flames 23 years old or younger (Backlund, Brodie, Aliu, Reinhart, Horak, Baertschi)

Combined:

12 shots
+5 (no minus players)
3 goals
3 assists

No Iginla, Bouwmeester, Kipper, Tanguay or Glencross.

Oilers are something special alright.

Nothing against Carson or Street, but it's too bad Byron was out long term, and Breen is hurt because otherwise they'd probably be in there too.

Also, Bouma should be in the mix as a big, speedy bottom sixer as well.

Looking forward to getting a look at Cundari and Hanowski as well.

Don't want to get to overly optimistic at this point, but maybe our prospect pool, although clearly low on elite talent, isn't as crappy as everybody thinks.

was fun to watch..... finally
if a rebuild looks anything like that effort, generally without that success, I'm really good with that

Macdonald seems to always struggle with his rebounds.

One of the things missing in the analysis (an the gushing praise for Hartley) is the complete change in coaching direction.... either forced by line-up changes or finally driven home by my post here on CP:

the lines:

Baertschi Backlund- Stempniak

Hulder - Rienhardt - Jackman

Cammalleri - Horak - Aliu

Cervenka - Street - Begin

There was at least 1 big tough guy on each line.

Jackman was a monster.... season high ice time 13:44 All with Hulder and Rienhart against Edmonton's top 2 lines (either Eberle/Gagner or Hall/RNH) 2 assists, +1, 6 SOG and 7 hits Hudler looked good playing with the time and space created by Jackman and Rienhart.

Just 2 years ago Jackman had 10 goals and 23 pts when he got a chance to play off the 4th line. He makes the guys on his line a lot more confident and and a lot less chance of being bullied and pushed around.

"Hartley has them playing some pretty good hockey despite the fact the Flames roster is littered with kids from the Heat"

I am not sure what the "despite" is doing in that sentence.
