Vladimir Konstantinov walks again
Quote:
Vladimir Konstantinov, Sergei Mnatsakanov and Slava Fetisov suffered injuries in an accident on June 13 when the driver of a rented limousine drove onto a median of Woodward Avenue and struck a tree. Konstantinov and Mnatsakanov suffered serious injuries. Konstantinov was in a coma and suffered brain injuries. Mnatsakanov was paralyzed from the waist down.

Quote:
Detroit hockey fans remember that emotional moment seeing Steve Yzerman handing Konstantinov the Stanley Cup, and Konstantinov carrying it while in a wheelchair as his teammates pushed him around the ice.
|
Quote:
He enjoys going to restaurants with family and friends. “He knows what is going on,” Swingle said. “He definitely keeps up.”
“The quality of his life has tremendously improved. He can walk by himself.”

Pretty amazing story from one of the saddest stories in the NHL's history. I still remember as a kid watching Yzerman hand him the cup in '98 during the cup final. One of my favorite defenseman to watch when I was young and it's real nice to see him doing well.

Yeah one of the true hockey tragedies. There was a time when people thought he was better than Lindstrom.
Amazing to see him walking again. No doubt that comes from the same fire in the belly that made him such a great player.

I believe he had 2 prior convictions and was driving without a license that night. He claims he passed out for some reason. He served 7 months for driving with a suspended license. 2 years later he received his 3rd drunk driving conviction while leaving a bar.
