Default Declaring war on "Phubbers"

http://www.theprovince.com/news/Phub...451/story.html

Seems to me the problem is getting worse and worse everyday.

The phenomenon has been around for a while. I'm standing in line for 20 minutes at a parts counter. I'm finally next and the phone rings, the service guy answers the phone and I'm ignored until the call is finished. It's just become way worse with the new phones and it's spread to the everyday person.

Just found out what phubbers are from this thread, and yes phubbers are the worst. Just stay home if you're going to burry your face in your phone all night.

I'll admit to being that guy who constantly has their phone but generally won't bring it out unless I've been snubbed first as that is a pet peeve of mine as well.

I don't mind it if a person checks an incoming message, and perhaps texts a quick reply or two. But if it happens often, or if they are having a full on conversation, man that pisses me off. I usually bring their attention to it though. What's worse is when they know it, and they STILL do it!

Well, the article does say the campaign began in Australia, so a funny sounding name is par form the course.

To quote a famous TV line: 'I'm surprised they don't call them Wozzle Wazzers!'

Aussie Squeeky Voiced Teen about bullfrogs on the Australia episode.

"What? Bullfrogs? That's an odd name. I'd have called them chaz-wazzers!".

Ahhh, that's correct! Knew I'd screw it up. Close enough.

I even mistyped 'from'.

I actually got the quote closer in the double post (thinking it was an edit). Then I missed the edit in my original post.

Wow, complete and utter fail.

I thought that Phubbers was a new slang term for obese.

I've never found this to be a problem. Usually friends fire back a quick text or two while at the bar no big deal. Have yet to run into a friend that has full on text conversations while out with a group.

What I don't agree with is the checkout girl mentioned in the article who refused to scan a customers groceries because they were on the phone. I don't want to talk to you, you are not paid to talk to me, you are paid to scan my groceries, do it quick and I can get on with my life. Why must I be forced to talk to you?

It's rude and obnoxious to yak on the phone while you are being served. We live in a society, a minimum level of interaction is expected.

I refuse to help people until their off their phone all the time. Sorry, but your basically telling the cashier that you don't have the time if day for them. It's incredibly rude. They're not a machine, it's a person for crying out loud

I will NEVER answer a text or call if I am with a client, and expect the same courtesy in return. Anyone in my close circle knows if it is an emergency to call my work and have the receptionist interrupt me. Otherwise my ringer is off when I have a client in front of me. I do not understand how some people cannot understand this fundamental professional courtesy.

Depends on the company I'm with. I've made an effort to associate with more interesting people in an effort to combat my social media addiction. I find myself checking my phone much less, but my Twitter timeline and the front page of Reddit become far more appealing if the company is an extreme bore.

Really? Because usually my cashier is a sullen 17-year old who doesn't say anything except "air miles? Club card?".

That being said I'm never actually talking to anyone on my phone, so I'm not guilty of this particular faux-pas. I can see why some people don't care though.

I was once doing a fitness test on a client who decided she had to start texting during the step test, and she got snitty when I asked her to put her phone away. She had to find another trainer after that session.
