Has Redford done any good for Alberta?

My wife was thinking about going back to school once our youngest got to school age.

Turns out due to cuts from the province they had to cut courses from the college she would have attended.

Not living directly in Alberta, I haven't really paid a ton of attention to her, but I haven't heard anything positive. What's the feeling towards her?

Still prefer it over the Wildrose though.

Great addition, you are actually a lot like the party that you support, you like the party haven't offered any concrete statements about what you would do differently. There are the common platitudes such as streamline operations, reduce waste in the legislature but there hasn't been much in the way of actual constructive dialogue from the opposition. You pretty much spew whatever the Wildrose says and then say that you aren't associated with them... which just shows a lack of individual thought.

I do think it is funny that Redford was being criticized for being too liberal and then for cutting education/health care too much.

I think that the Conservatives have done a decent job managing the economy and juggling the demands of the populace for higher services at a lower cost, however they haven't done a good job by any stretch. Redford doesn't have any support from her party and I would be surprised to see her last a leadership convention.

Lastly, I think that people don't realize that the good times in Alberta are over, the price of gas is low and the price of oil is low... There is hope in the future but that could be a ways off.

Redford actively advocated for the vote of teachers, doctors and nurses and their unions to defeat the front runner Gary Mar. Redford surfaced on top with a myriad of promises and won the election in April 2012 with another PC majority government. The Wildrose Party, which had lead in the polls for weeks and had been touted to finally oust the PCs 41 year dynasty only won 18 seats.

Fast forward, sixteen months later Redford has broken almost every promise she made, is in a very public fight with the provinces unions and has left a record of scandals and reckless spending. Add to this yesterday's so-called balanced budget and the intend to borrow $12.7 billion for capital infrastructure projects over the next three years, and you have the perfect storm.

Redford pays a price for alienating ‘everybody’

The Angus Reid survey shows Redford has a dismal 29-per cent approval rating among Albertans. That’s down from 47 per cent in December and 55 per cent last August.

Losing 26 percentage points — or almost half her approval rating — in seven months is the political equivalent of going over a cliff.

There is, however, another issue at play here. The next election might be three years away, but Redford’s next vote is only seven months away. She faces a mandatory leadership review at the PCs’ annual convention in November.

Party members might have second thoughts about supporting her if her approval rating doesn’t improve. That’s not to say she’ll get less than 50 per cent of delegate support. But anything less than 70 per cent and she’ll be in trouble. Keep in mind Stelmach received 77 per cent at his party vote and he was forced out 14 months later.
