Default Calgary Stampeders Offseason for 2013

So, the 100th Grey Cup (2012) is now over and the annual Garbage Day at McMahon Stadium was last Tuesday. Now it is time to see who will stay as Calgary Stampeders and who will move somewhere else.

Free Agency: We have 10 free agents in this team led by kickoff/punt returner/receiver Larry Taylor, punter Rob Maver, receiver Romby Bryant, OL Mark Dewit, OL Stanley Bryant, DL Corey Mace, DL Justin Phillips, DE Chris McCoy, DL Brian Buelcke and safety Eric Fraser.

Although QB Kevin Glenn is not a free agent, he might ask to be move if he doesn't want to settle as a backup QB for Drew Tate. On coaching staff, i am pretty sure OC Dave Dickenson might get some call from another team but the question is, is he in a rush to move somewhere yet or still want to learn from Coach Hufnagel and stay in Calgary. President Lyle Bauer's contract is up next month. The question is, would the Calgary Flames organization keep him or let him go. I think they will re-sign him to a new contract.

Here's my thought on the free agency. I think Stamps will re-sign Larry Taylor, Rob Maver, Corey Mace, Romby Bryant and maybe Stanley Bryant and Brian Buelcke. Chris McCoy might be on the maybe category also but if Anwar Stewart stays, McCoy might be the odd man out. Phillips missed a lot of games this season and Stamps might just let him pursue another team. I think Eric Fraser will sign somewhere else but i really don't mind it since Keenan McDougall might be ready for next season. As for Mark Dewit, i have to say he is good as gone. He never really fit in with the Stamps and the Stamps are in a process of signing a couple of OL draft picks soon.

Who do you think will stay and who will go next season?

Of the 10 free agents:
Keep: Taylor, Maver, S. Bryant, Mace, Phillips, McCoy, Bulcke
Walk: R. Bryant, Dewit, Fraser

Glenn to Win for their 1st rounder (2nd overall), draft Gaydosh.

There are no HC openings this year unless Reed gets canned in Edmonton so we should be ok with DD.

I like Campbell's defence as well. So he stays. All coaches should return.

A list of some of the free agents for each team. Anyone you would like the Stamps to target?

Fraser had a very frustrating season. He struggled big time. He'll likely walk.

Mace really showed his worth down the stretch and Taylor, what else can you really say? I love watching him play.

I'd be working my way down the list and Maver would be at the top. Kicking game or lack thereof can cost teams games. Taylor would be next in line.

I would move Glenn. Go with Tate, Bo and bring in another guy they can groom.

Tate rubs me the wrong way. I'd rather have Mitchell take his shot at it.

Tate shouldn't just be handed the job next TC. Him and Bo should compete for it and go from there. Even if Tate wins it Bo will likely be coming in a lot (or as injury replacement, doesnt look like Tate can stay healthy).

Mace and Bulcke are right up there in terms of priority, NT DT who can contribute are not easy to find.

The offensive line needs to be addresses first and foremost. Then we need to fix the linebackers and hope baggs is a game changer so Hughes can do his thing.

The Stamps really need help on the offensive line and they really need a safety, Eric Fraser was awful. There is not much out there for free agents but I'd have a long look at a couple of those free agent linebackers from BC and Edmonton.

Bryant came on strong late but with West and Price around, I hope they let him walk.

I'd give the safety job to Mcdougall. Kid looked good when he played and we have a young team already so might as well let him get in there and learn. Cant be worse than Fraser...

Looks like Special Team Coordinator will be interview for U of A job. I hope he stays because he improved a lot this season and special team coverage had an awesome season.

As for the players, Fraser was brutal all season but i have to admit he played vs BC on Western Final but i really hope he sign somewhere else. I thought our OLine did a good job this season considering the starters only played together like 2, 3 or 4 games. They had a lot of injuries on that group. Impressed with Gott, Wilson and Deane but very dissapointed with Mark Dewit. Our receivers are looking good in the future with young guys like Price and West. Hopefully Forzani does not struggle again next season. Anthony Parker need to stay healthy all season and show he can play. I am tired of watching Arjei Franklin keep dropping the ball.

I think Eric Fraser is easily replaceable he was terrible, and 1 play shouldn't allow him to stay a stampeder. He can't read plays, he takes terrible angles and he looks scared to hit.

We also need to replace Simpson. After jc sherrit they guy is the most overrated player in the cfl. You need more speed, better latter movement and some swagger.

The identity of this defense had gone down the toilet. When we had armor in the middle this team played with swagger and knew they could easily shut other teams down.

We also need to move Raymond back to halfback he's not a linebacker. The linebacker position needs to be upgraded we need more speed.

The defensive line depending on what baggs can do should be fine. The interior needs to do a better job of getting the initial push.

Offensively we will be fine. The left tackle issue needs to be addressed. The grey cup loss still stings.

AC as the All-Star QB? Didn't realize it was a lifetime achievement award this season.

Should have been Burris.

I think the rest of the All-Stars are all good choices

Edit: For what it's worth, Busby thinks Lulay should have received the nod (and I also agree that he had a better season than Calvillo)

The guy who had the best statistical season for QBs, yep I'd choose him. An argument can be made for Lulay as well I'd suppose.

Who would you have chosen?

The Stamps will not lose Mark Kilam to the U of A. They went in a different direction for their HC.
