Iginla soaks up Pens’ atmosphere
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/h...ng-atmosphere/
Quote:
Jarome Iginla walked his kids down a hallway lined by large photographs of Penguins players, ranging from captain Sidney Crosby to fourth-line center Joe Vitale.
“We were just looking at the pictures on the way, and I’m, like, ‘Oh, my gosh, we’re already up there,’ ” Iginla said, referring to the framed photograph of him in a black Penguins home jersey. “I thought that was a pretty neat touch, to already be a part of it.
|
Quote:
“They got my kids jerseys with my number (12) and name on the back, and stuffed animals — and my kids were so pumped,” Iginla said. “They were wearing those jerseys around everywhere, and they had hats. Now we’re full Penguins fans.”
|
Nice to hear the Pen's organization is making the transition easy for his kids and family. Not that I thought they wouldn't, it's clear they want to keep Iginla, but it's a nice story.

That's a classy move by the Pens! Great to see the respect level for him.
I honestly haven't even thought about Iginla once in the last week. Totally forgot about that whole situation. I'm pretty much over the whole thing and don't care two shakes if he's in another uniform now.

Kent Nilsson -> Joe Nieuwendyk -> Jarome Iginala -> ???
Can't wait to see who we get with get with the Pens pick
Joe was selected with the 27th pick we got for Nilsson. The Pens pick will be in that range as well

Flames facilities must suck at the dome.
Quote:
“Calgary was a good organization, and it’s a smaller city, and (the Flames) create that family feel,” Iginla said. “But you get that family feel here, too. And the facilities here are amazing. (Consol Energy Center) has been well thought out.
“Just look at the shooting room. That’s great. When you’re a player, you grow up shooting in your backyard or basement. Here, there is a room for us to just shoot. And the breakfast area is built so that guys can eat and hang out together. I could keep going on, but there are things that make it conducive to helping you get ready to play.
“I was here less than a week and I could tell why they have this winning tradition with the Penguins. It’s a winning atmosphere.”

Initially the move was really hard to take as a fan.
But after several games for Iggy with his new team and the Flames post-Iggy, it's actually really subsided. Maybe it's all the hype of a new future for the Flames and the building of a new core, but I think him playing in the eastern conference has made it a lot easier to take as well.
So long as Jarome doesn't forget where his 'home' is, when all is said and done..

Yeah, I don't really need to hear more about how much more amazing his new setup is ... it just kinda sucks as a Flames fan

It's definitely a lot easier that he's in the East. For me it hasn't sucked as much as I thought it would.

For me it's bitter-sweet.
I'm happy to hear he's happy, the family, etc. But at the same time I do miss him being with the Flames.
But on the third side (can there be a third side?) I'm REALLY looking forward to the draft and all the young kids we having coming up. Along with the prospect of a new arena!
Change is good. Even if it hurts at the start.

I'm surprised how little time it's taken for me to move on. I wish him well, but its all in the past now. I'm much more excited about what's to come for the Flames.

I might be in the minority here but this kind of angers me. "there are things here that make it conducive to helping you get ready to play" WTF Iggy, you were the captain and this is a new concept? No wonder this franchise toiled in mediocrity for years

Of course the Consol Energy Center is awesome... it's the newest building in the league. I'd be dissapointed if he said otherwise.
Calgary's new arena plans will blow it out of the water, though. Trust me on this. Pittsburgh's will look second-rate compared to what's coming.

I think it's been a lot easier than most people thought it would because most of us, whether admitting it or not, want this team to finish as low in the standings as possible in this shortened season to give us the best possible player to build around going forward and NOBODY wanted to have to see Iginla go through that at this stage in his career and are excited for him as a player to have a chance to succeed.
Lot easier to swallow the pain of your franchise player being moved when his best years are behind him and it's for all the right reasons.

Not surprised that the Flames facilities are mediocre from everything we've seen of them on the news, on FlamesTV segments, etc. They just look like 30 year old concrete rooms with some paint on it.

I doubt they suck that bad, probably a dream for the other 99.9% of us. Plus all teams have a basic level they all meet. It's not like he was in Latvia or something.
The dome is over thirty years old, the Pens have a brand new rink. I doubt the Igloo was anything to write home about. Plus as the old adage says, "Winning solves everything", I am sure the warts are more apparent when you are in 28th and opposed to 2nd.
In 5 years the new rink will be built and I am sure it will meet or more likely beat the Pens barn. Just the way it works.
Glad Iggy is having a good time. Usually when I switch jobs I rave about my new place too. Hopefully they keep winning, and he keeps having a good time in these last 5 or so seasons left. By then we will have a new guy and a new rink, so both parties will end up winners.

I've never seen it in person, but from the outside at least the Consol centre looks pretty generic to me.
