Default Trade Deadline Better as Buyer or Seller?

I'm enjoying this trade deadline way more than any previous one. I think it is a lot more fun to be a seller at the deadline. I'm also really excited about cheering for loses for the rest of the year. I think this is the most excited I've been all season.

Would much rather be comfortably in a playoff spot. It's fun to be a legitimate buyer. Remember when the Flames got Jokinen? I was ecstatic. That feeling is way better than getting a draft pick.

It's tough to say as a Flames fan because we usually buy just to try make the playoffs...

For most other teams being a buyer is way better because you're trying to contend for the cup

I'm sure getting a special delivery from the Feaster Bunny was a heck of a lot more fun for Pens fans than it was for us.

I miss spending draft picks for players like Staios and Modin and then watch my team fail to get into the playoffs. Those were the days.

Saying goodbye to guys you've cheered on for years in exchange for picks and guys you've never heard of is definitely not as satisfying as gearing up for the playoffs.

It is more eventful though.

A million time better being a buyer than a seller - cheering to lose is a pretty sad way to live life.

I'd rather be buying pieces then selling them, it would mean I'd have something to look forward to after April. Atleast it's not like the last 2 years where all we did was trade for Modin for a 7th because we were too cheap to buy in order to have a better chance at making the playoffs and too proud to sell because management hadn't seen the writing on the wall yet.

I hate this question. If you're buying, you've got to be selling. If you're selling, you've gotta be buying. The question is, what we'll be buying, and what we'll be selling. Imo, we need to keep doing what we're doing. Trading big pieces for 1sts in the 2013 draft and prospects to fill our needs. I find it disturbing that we got a lot more for Bouwmeester than we did Iginla, however, I still like the action Feaster is taking. Before the deadline, I see us making 2 more big deals with the same return. 5 first round picks at the draft, 8 new top prospects, I'm pretty happy with that. A last place finish may even give us the first overall pick, so we may not be waiting too long to be competitive again.

Yeah, when your team is the worst team in the league, it's awesome!

Ordinarily, it sucks to be a seller. However, when it needed to happen two years ago, this deadline is more of a relief than anything. It gives us hope.

Hearing that Feaster was a buyer last year was like a wife who knows they don't have the mortgage payment learning her husband spent the previous night at the casino.

That's like some kind of wonderful, strange, delusional haiku.

At this point in time, obviously the Flames, finally realizing & being intellectually honest to themselves finally, have no choice but to be sellers.

Would rather be in a situation of a buyer - no doubt.

However, deadline deals (especially blockbusters) have a way of often not working out.

What's the most frustrating this Trade Deadline is that the Flames are amongst the very few true sellers. One would have thought this would have meant for overpayment by the buyers. It's a tough environment in the salary cap era, but have to feel the Flames could've raked in just a little more for Iggy & JBo. Flames brass needed to play a little better "hockey poker".

Yip, this was the year we acquired Cammalleri and had like an 8 point lead in our division... We felt like legitimate cup contenders.

Iggy and Cammy were unstoppable and a deep run into the playoffs was all but realized.

Being a buyer and looking forward to a potential championship is soooo much better than selling/rebuilding/looking forward to next season, or the next, or the next. I miss the Flames being a part of elite company

As much as I hate cheering to lose, and even when I watch I still cheer for us to win while knowing they'd be better off losing, I think you're looking at it wrong.

It would be a sad way to live life if we cheered for it for 3 long years straight, but we are lucky enough to be doing this in a shortened season where we don't have to endure the sting nearly as long + the draft this year is supposedly as deep and talent filled as we've seen since '03, if not before.

It's not life, it's a short term sacrifice for long term gain, and for that I'm enjoying this seasons "selling". Although not nearly as much as when we were potential buyers and had cup aspirations following '04.
