Default Now that the Rebuild is here...

Trying to gauge the temperature of CP. Over the past few years there has been those that promoted a full tear-down, those that were happy with tweaking the team, and those that were against it in any form.

For me, I am happy to see the turn of the page for the organization, more then just the returns we are getting. Over the next few hours we will see more guys go...players we have cheered on and put our hopes into for years.

So CP now that we are finally at the Rebuild, are you happy with it, sad at the players going, mad at the returns, or indifferent to the team?

I'm not happy with the prospects we're getting, but I need to see what they do at this draft before I get really worried. We either need to keep all our picks and use them, or package some of the late ones to move up and try to draft twice in the top 10.

If we move them for more middling prospects, consider me not a fan.

Rebuild is necessary, but its gonna take 2 years longer than it should have due to the returns of the last 2 trades.

Glad we are finally turning the page tho

Glad they are re-building. Not glad that it was forced upon them. Glad they got first's. Not glad with the prospects they got back.

Didn't think they would get blue chip prospects, but better than "meh" players at best.

Happy that they've finally realized it has to happen. I'm thinking this is Feaster's last chance to really start doing something positive for this organization. You lean extra hard on your scouts and ppl involved with the draft process, stock pile a bunch of picks, and hope to god some of the young men can translate their game to the NHL in an impactful way sooner rather than later.

What is a realistic timeline for a Rebuild? I keep hearing 2-3 years at a minimum, all the way out to 4-5 years.

Does that seem realistic in the salary cap era? I understand that a rebuild not done properly can be an ugly cycle, but I really cant wrap my head around and understand just what we are facing, before we have a competitive team again.

Every journey begins with a single step I suppose.

No half measures - get value for our remaining tradeable assets (Glencross, Kipper... ?) and get on with the full rebuild.

At the very least by doing so we might accumulate enough picks to be able to trade up into the "idiot proof" zone of the first round.

The 2013 NHL Draft may be the most important day in Flames history. We could potentially draft three (or maybe more depending on the deals this week) franchise players that could form the new Calgary Flames for many years to come.

Feels wrong, but at the same time I'm getting really excited for it.

I think the first question that CPers have to answer.

The money free'd up from Iginla, Bouw and maybe Kipper. 20+ million dollars

How do the Flames spend it this summer? Is it really a rebuild or do the Flames once again want to go for 8th.

I've had a wide range of emotions; as much as I clamored for change, seeing the team get gutted is unsettling. But, I'm hopeful that this is the right direction and that we'll be better for it.

The hardest part for me is hearing all the beaking from all my buddies who cheer against the Flames. They're the same people all hooting and hollering for a rebuild, then when it finally happens, they criticize the moves.

Watching Iginla play for Pittsburgh is pretty cool though, he's still my favorite player and I truly hope he wins more than one cup with the Penguins.

It's going to be a lousy couple years here in Calgary, but eventually, we'll be back to the playoffs.

I am quite confident in the Draft because that is John Weisbroad's show. He seems like he knows what he is doing given the selections made since his time with the Flames. As long as big Feast doesn't make any dumb trades with the picks, we should have a strong crop of young talent after this draft. Let's hope we can get to June with 3-4 first rounders & a couple of 2nds.

GirlySports, I pray that Uncle Feaster doesn't go UFA hunting with a pocket full o' cash.

It is about time. The most important thing with the two trades is that we have 14 million in the bank for cap space from this year. If we trade Kipper and Cammalleri, we'll be over 25 mil available with another possible 4.5 removed if we trade Sarich and let Babchuk walk.

With 30 million dollars in space, we could offer Clarkson 5.00 Filppula 5.00, Streit 5, Bozak 4.5, Stalberg 3 and still have flexibility to add, and in terms of production, you would get a roughly equivalent team to this year's

All while getting a bunch of picks and prospects.

The surplus of cap space is potentially very attractive for the compliance period after the season. We could be the beneficiaries of Malakhov + 1st rounder for a 3rd rounder type deals to help teams come down and hit the cap. That would be a very good use of resources.

Pretty sure Feaster said that he was not happy that they have to rebuild. So my guess is they are rebuilding, which makes the $20 million of space irrelevant for fans.

One would think we'd learn from trying to cobble a roster together from free agents...

This rebuild is 3 years too late and as a result it's going to take longer to right the ship and get moving in the right direction. That said i'm happy we are finally turning the page and looking to the rebuild and the draft.

Maybe we should have a poll.

we are like 15% of the way into shaping our team. There are more moves to make @ the deadline, July 1st, Training Camp, Pre-Season etc...

Next September, we'll be able to ask ourselves how the rebuild is looking.
