Default Good for you Cory Sarich

I was always a fan of his when he was here. I am sure this will get lots of flak, but I am happy he has landed on his feet and is playing well in Denver.

Too old. Too slow. The game passed him by. Throw-in. Had to take him.
Those were some of the unflattering things said about Cory Sarich when a trade sending him from the Calgary Flames to the Avalanche was announced this summer, right before the NHL draft. He was a 35-year-old defenseman who often was a healthy scratch with one of the worst teams in the league last season. Expectations were low for the native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Could he even stick with the Avs?
The answer: a resounding yes. Nobody is ready to hand him a Norris Trophy just yet, but Sarich has been the Avs' best defenseman in their 3-0 start. After Tuesday's game at Toronto — where he scored his first goal in 65 games and only
his 21st in 918 games overall — Sarich has a plus-5 rating.

Sarich was unfairly the whipping boy around here. I was always a fan, and he was great in the community as well.

Glad to see him appreciated where he is.

That hit he landed on Marleau when we were down 3-0 was my favorite moment ever. Flames came back and won 4-3 if I recall correctly

I know he was scratched a lot hat season but I thought he played well the games he did draw into. Was never quite sure why he was scratched so often. At any rate, when you listen to the guy in interview he seems level headed and a good leader.

Was definitely overpaid but not a bad guy to have on the team.

Yeah I always liked Sarich as well. He's exactly the type of Dman we're missing right now actually. He may not be the fastest skater and made the odd poor decision, but his size, strength and defensive game are sorely missed around here.

All the best Sarich!

Always a fan of Sarich, always thought he was underrated and under respected by many Flames fans.

Still, no issue with the team moving on a 35 year old one dimensional D-man as part of the rebuild around here.

I was there as well and it was by far the best game I've ever seen live. Man I miss playoff hockey...

Big fan of the way Sarich played when he was with us. We really treated him unfairly with all those healthy scratches (which was all the more puzzling given than he was our most physical blueliner).

Glad he is proving the organization wrong.

The feel good story of the morning. Pretty indifferent about Sarich overall, as a Flame or as an opponent.

Good guy, but he's 35 and we needed to get younger and get other players some ice time

He wasn't soft enough to play D on this team.

Nice to see him doing well. Just wait till he lays out a couple flames in the first Flames/Avs matchup

I've always loved Sarich. He plays defence the way it was meant to be played.

Good for him. We could really use a guy like Sarich right now.

Would much rather have kept Sarich over O'Brien. Sarich has the veteran leadership on the team needed to guide the back end.

Wish he would have stayed.

The trade wasn't Sarich for SOB. It was Tanguay and Sarich for David Jones with SOB thrown in.

Tanguay had to be moved as part of the re-build.

Cory was still a good player when we traded him, but you have to remember that the trade was just to get younger and move Tanguay before he pouted away any trade value he had left. Cory was just a little too old to be part of the rebuild. I was still bummed when I heard we traded him, but I understood. Congrats Cory.

Always liked and respected Sarich.

And I had no problem with the trade. Glad he's doing well there.
