Samoa Air to start charging passengers according to their weight
Quote:
Chris Langton told Australia's ABC Radio that it was "the fairest way of travelling".
Rather than pay for a seat, passengers pay a fixed price per kilogram, which varies depending on the route length.

They have the right to charge what they feel is appropriate for their services. The market will determine if the public agrees with their reasoning.

Certainly makes sense considering the cost of airplane fuel.

If any airline needed to institute this I can't imagine there's a better candidate than Samoa Air.

Gotta work at keeping this flab.

Yeah they're not exactly being fair to their population. Islanders are some of the heaviest folks on the planet.

So if I buy a ticket at say 200lbs, but cut weight to be say 180lbs at flight time, do I get a discount? Or if I go the other way does my fat ass get charged more?

Interesting concept, albeit short people will fly cheaper than tall people when you move past thinking about fat people.
Oh man think about the armless and legless people, the savings!!

It looks like you agree to pay a certain amount per kg. So when you arrive, they weigh you and everything you brought. Maybe you'd have to pay a deposit ahead of time or something?

BMI does screw tall people over though.
I'm pretty skinny, and I have a BMI of almost 27 (well into the overweight category).

I think in a perfectly fair world, you'd pay your share of the fuel cost by weight, and every person would pay an even amount to cover the overhead.
