Since Brucey-Boy came up with a thread to answer questions about his culture, I thought it'd be funny for me to answer questions regarding mine (as you know being born and raised Canadian, and a white male, still living in the province, things are soooo different for me, lol).
So... ask away!

Reggie: That's a Newfoundland song, alas not a Maritime song, mind you Celtic nonetheless, and the Cape Breton (where I'm from) and Newfoundland (where MJK is from if I'm not mistaken) are almost identical with a few subtleties. But Liza's husband would be the correct answer.
Mind you... the correct spelling is b'y, not bye. It's actually a contraction, short for "buddy". So to say "Hey b'y, how's she goin'?" Is actually saying "Hey buddy, how's she goin'?"
edit: Anne Murray, ummm yeah... she's the pride of Springhill NS, but frankly the rest of us wish she'd just disappear and stop embarasing us. You shoulda heard my dad bitch about having to drive through Springhill on the bus, all becuase of how much he loathes that woman.
As for being a "gym teacher" *wink*wink*nudge*nudge* I haven't heard anything to confirm, however I have heard rumours of Rita McNeil "swinging the other way"

Is it true most Maritimers want Quebec to separate so it won't take so long to drive to Toronto?

In the Stompin' Tom song Bud The Spud, why are the Ontario Provincial Police chasing the Potato Truck driver through Montreal? Or am I hearing the lyrics wrong?

One shouldn't bring up Anne Murray this close to supper time.
What surprises me is that, one time or another, she had a stalker. I mean, a male one.

pope4: hahaha, no we don't like Toronto, however the drive to the city with the CN Tower will be shorter, and we love that place! But seriously we want Quebec to seperate so we don't have to fail French is high school anymore :P
Regulator75: quotas, they keep cutting the quotas of fish you can catch. This year there's been alot of protests back home (Cape Breton) regarding the crab fishery, to the point where they blocked the Newfoundland Ferry a couple of times (once for like 24 hours or so). Can you imagine taking a 10 hour ferry ride, only to be sitting in the harbour looking at the dock and not able to get there for a full 24 hours? I'd be flippin! Atleast block me where I can't see land.
Flashpoint: those that haven't switched over to shell fish (not that it's just as easy as saying I think I'll catch lobster now) are unemployed on EI, or welfare, or a pension of some sort. The industry is basically dead, and for Cape Breton steel and coal all went belly up as well.

TheyCallMeBruce: Cod is what the ocean *used* to be filled with. The cod fishery back in the 1700's was worth more than the fur trade in North America. They'd catch it, salt it, then ship it over to very religious catholics who wouldn't eat meat on Fridays.
Reaper: we pronounced cawwd, dawwwg, and cawr properly, it's YOUS that pronouce it wrong
it's just a regionalistic accent, nothing more. Same reason people from Boston don't park their cars, they paarr da caa

Well, the cops have been lookin' for the son of a gun
That's been rippin' the tar off the four-O-one;
They know the name on the truck shines up in the sun --
"Green Gables."
But he hits Toronto and at seven o'clock,
He backs her up again at the terminal dock,
And the boys gather `round just to hear him talk
About another big load of potatoes.

Reggie: I'm not framiliar with much of Stompin' Tom, as he's from the OTHER island in the Maritimes (the over rated Anne of Green Gables one, haha) I'll check out the lyrics and get back to you
pope04: I agree, no one should ever mention Anne Murray around supper time, breakfast time, lunch time, break time, nap time, bed time, hammer time, or any other time for that matter!

Why are Maritimers so snooty about their salmon whenever BC salmon is mentioned?
Why did the people of Halifax riot so willingly the minute the police went on strike?
I've got my trusty copy of The Shipping News open beside me. Are there really places called Baggy Banks, Tickle Bay and Flour Sack Cove?
Are there local recipes for Fried Bawk, Damper Devils, Dogberry Wine and Peas and Melts?
What does Seal Flipper pie taste like? Chicken?
