Flames Some legitamate questions now that #12 is gone.

I have some questions that I have been thinking about that I have seen answered partially in other threads but wanted to see more responses in one place.

This is not a thread to discuss the actual trade and its value. Whats done is done. That being said here we go:

1. There were numerous examples where Jarome was invovled in luring UFA's to Calgary by making calls on behalf of the organization, now that he will no longer be doing so what impact will that have on that market?

2. Jarome made huge charitable contributions namely to Kidsport, now that he is gone who (if any) steps up on that side of the business?

3. Cup win? What impact will a win have on Jarome come July 1. If he get elusive Stanley, where will he land come July 1? If he doesnt where will he land? Will Jarome play for money or will he play to be closer to home? Not saying he comes back a flame but would he consider offers from Edmonton/Calgary (unlikely), Winnipeg? or Vancouver over an East Coast contender?

4. Lastly long term...Jarome is liked probably more than Conroy in the front office of the Flames organization and would likly be offered a role here post hockey life. One thing about him that has always been clear and was evident yesterday in his presser is he is a great political speaker and very diplomatic. I think this will spill over into many areas of use, so what kind of role do you think he would be offered?

Thats it for now.

Thanks for reading/replying.

Jarome called Brad Richards, Wade Redden and Ryan Smyth; none of them signed here. Which UFA did he call that actually signed here?

1. Can't think of a great FA that we brought in and FA isn't going to be an important issue for a few years now so not too concerned about this.

2. Might be lower at first but plenty of money in city and with team that I am sure they will still get a lot of donations.

3. He will go to a mix of winning/comfort. Highly unlikely to be Calgary, Edmonton or Winnipeg.

4. Likely would be some sort of ambassador or representative same as before. Doesn't seem to have as much likelihood to be in hockey ops so glad hander at team functions seems to be his role.

1. With big names guys being shipped out, rebuild is on. They will have cap space to get UFAs but they would have to overpay a bit. This is something I hope they don't do.

2. Gio and Glenncross probably are going to be with this team for a while and they do a lot of charity work already. Plus I don't think Iggys the type of guy to stop giving back to the community because he got traded.

3. Jarome will probably get around 5-7 million in the open market. Obviously I can be more or less depending on the term her wants and if he takes a discount to stay with a contender. I don't see him playing in calgary or another Canadian team for a few years.

4. Jarome doesn't seem like the front office, coaching type. If insider reports are correct he's more of a quiet leader and that wouldn't make a good coach. He's more of the fade away into retirement kind of guy I think.

This obsession with signing free agents is a big part of the reason the Flames are in the mess their in, anything that makes it harder for a half assed GM to piss cap space away is a good thing imho.

Iginla was the catalyst for many UFA's to come here. Guys on the fence coming here? Jarome will call him. Him not here anymore is going to hurt in that department big time...he's one of the most respected guys out there.

Which is going to hurt even more exponentially was the fact that the President threw him under the bus in a national media interview the same day. If a player has to make a choice, and gets reminded of those comments by his agent or other players, how the Flames mistreated Iginla on his way out, it could well have an impact.

The Oilers suck in large part to them not being able to attract decent UFA's for the past half decade, thanks to the organization having thrown players under bus (Comrie, Souray even) and being untruthful to them (Pronger). That reputation sticks around for a long time.

For the first time as a Flames fan, I'm fearing we're reaching those depths with the comments from King dumping on Iginla yesterday unless something changes PDQ.

Apparently, some on HFboards believe he'll resign at 3 years for 1 million.

Pretty sure he talked to Amonte, Bertuzzi, and Nolan. And I'm sure he had something to do with bringing Jokinen, Tanguay, and Cammy back.

It wouldn't hurt the flames to build their team through the draft. Build it and they will come. The UFA will come when the team is ready.

For the UFA question:

Players will still sign here for opportunity and dollars. I'm not sure Iginla was instrumental in bringing Hudler in for example. But instead the money combined with the opportunity to play top two lines.

In the future hopefully the lure will also be to play on a young and upcoming team that has some great young players. Obviously this won't be the case for probably a year or two. EDM managed to snag Schultz because of opportunity but also because he thought they'd be a contender eventually with all their young talent.

By the time we need to landing that final piece to be a cup contender you'd think some of the other pieces would be attractive enough to help lure guys.

Which brings us back to the question of who will be the next face of the franchise? This draft will be huge for us.

Another reason I don't go on HF. I'm sure he wants to win but 1 million is ludicrous. This will be his last chance to make money and when the comparables are making roughly 4 to 6 million (doan, jagr, selanne) even 3 million for iginla would be a steal.

He's alreasy almost at $70M for his career, I dont see him taking 1M either but I dont think it will be all about the money especially when hes got a ring on his finger.

If he wins the Cup, my bet is that he's coming back here. He'll win the Cup and won't ever have to move his family. Why go through such a hassle of moving his family to Pitt (and moving back) if he won the only thing that's missing in his resume? Besides, Cup or not, I don't Pens could re-sign him anyway. Don't they have to re-sign Malkin and Letang?

I'd love to have Iggy mentor Sven, Johnny, McKinnon (or whoever we pick)....and finish his career here.

I think if he wins the cup with the Pens he either retires or signs with another big city top end team,I'd guess LA because of the Sutter conection, or Toronto as a cap to his HoF resume, being the vetran that pushes the Leafs into a cup final asures him God status through out the country.

I don't see him playing in Calgary again, the team is too badly run and playing in Calgary comes with to much stress, I would guess he will love being in a city where he is reletively unknown and can live a normal life.

I don't know. His whole life is here, and Kelowna I believe. Why would there be stress? He would have his Cup and the Flames would be in a rebuild, there wouldn't be any pressure on him or on the Flames. Imo, it's a perfect scenario.

Of course, he would need to take a paycut.

I suspect Iginla's decision about where he ends up will be based to a very large degree on his family's input, just as we all do when considering moving. Going to Pittsburgh for a couple of months is one thing. Where he and his family settle more permanently will depend on factors such as schools, friends and family connections, if the wife and kids like a particular city, etc.

The way single unattached NHL'ers make their choices about where to sign is markedly different from the way the ones with wives and families do so.
