Anton Babchuk
So what happened with Anton Babchuk. Why did he fall out of favour? How did he go from +18 and 27 points in 2010-11 to the doghouse?

Sorry, the copy and paste didn't work. It was his stats for the last few years.

That doesn't explain his stats in 2010-11.

Makes sense. No was excited to see what Anton was going to bring to the team after his +18 season but it seemed he was perpetually in the coaches dog house after Feaster signed him.
How long does he have left on his current deal?

Then in 2011-12 he only played half as many games. Can't remember, was he injured?

His skating and defensive play always sucked and it caught up to him. Even during the lockout when he played in the KHL he was bad from all reports.
If Feaster can get a 7th for him i would be impressed. He is back to Europe after this year.

His +/- doesn't bare our bad defensive play.

If coaching and management is smart, they'd use Babchuck now as much as they can and see if they can salvage any return for him, even if the Flames lose each and every game badly. What can be worse than winning right now when the first or second overall pick is within grasp? There's more of an urgency to lose now than ever before. Time for a fire sale before it's all over.

+/- isn't the only factor in juding a good/bad defensive player
From watching him play he's a disaster defensively, a -100 in my books

I thought if he'd ever excel, it'd be in Hartleys system he has here ala Bouwmeeters rejuvenation. Can't believe he wasn't sheltered at least to up his value. If they can't get anything at all, surprised there wasn't a mutal agreement to terminate and go to the KHL.

I find that hard to believe seeing as we only saw him twice this year. It doesn't explain his stats in 2010-11 and then we only see him half the games the following year. I think there's more to it.

It's probably too late to use him anymore. One more game until the deadline; I don't think any sensible manager is going to change their opinion on a player after seeing him play only one game.

I wasn't referring to just this year, I've always thought his defensive game was awful
I can't explain the +18, perhaps a combination of sheltered minutes, luck, plus minus being a garbage stat, and me being out to lunch.

You could be right about sheltered minutes but if that's correct then the Flames screwed up big time. Had they continued to played him in similar situations we probably could have moved him.

I would have been playing him for the last couple weeks as well. He might not be great, but if he scored a few goals on the PP he could garner a little interest as a depth D for the playoffs. I also would have sent Brodie to the AHL for a playoff push for them as well.
Giordano Wideman
Butler Sarich
Smith Babchuk
Then get what you can for Babchuk.
