Well done sir. Such a sad, difficult night. We came so close to hearing Gary Bettman say "Jarome Iginla come get the Stanley Cup". It never happened for us, but hopefully it will for our captain.

The irony of remembering back when a radio announcer butchered Iginla's name.... only to follow that with a sentence that misspells Nieuwendyk's name.

Thanks Bingo.

I had the game PVRed and I'm just watching it now. It's striking me that we'll never see the wicked one-timers from the top of the circles any more. We'll never rise out of the seats for some of the heroics that Iginla has given us literally hundreds of times.

We had the best player in the game for a few years. That's a really rare thing. It could quite possibly never happen to us again.

We got to watch in 2002 when he helped propel Canada to a gold medal when he was still a relative unknown and, on top of all the pride of winning the gold, we got to say, that guy is ours. He's a Flame.

The hockey world watched as Jarome Iginla led a ragtag group of nobodies all the way to game seven of the finals. He was our guy. There aren't many skaters who can take over a game and he did it more than a few times in those playoffs, and everybody got to wathc.

Then finally, in 2010, he was again in the spotlight and assisted on a goal that will live forever. He was our guy, in the hockey world's spotlight, probably for the last time.

We may never see that again.

Bye Jarome.

I honestly can't really believe that I'll never see Iginla play as a Flame again.

Hard to believe and to be honest it's been extremely hard for me to come to terms with.

It's so hard for me because I know we will never ever have a guy like Iginla play for the Flames ever again.

He was just quite simply ...awesome.

Not many guys like him come around often.

So sad.

This has been the season from hell.

The only way to look at it is like this. Iginla gets to play as a Penguin with Crosby. He has a legitimate chance of winning the cup, which he certainly deserves. Flames get a first rounder and some picks. As a true flames fan this is mutually beneficial. I will never get over the fact that Iginla isn't a flame anymore, but I can swallow it easier knowing that is was probably in the best interest for both groups.

Never say never, says Sean Connery. It's way to late to say that we may never see him play as a flame ever again.

Going to stick with the happy for now. Of all the teams I think I am most happy to see Iggy go to Penguins. He was great with Crosby in the Olympics and while I'm sure he won't be a regular on that line, I'm sure he'll get some time on it. Also I can see the two being very happy to play together.

I'll be watching the Pens this spring with my Iggy jersey on!

I got misty this morning (Singapore!) when I woke up and saw he was scratched. Been a fan since I read about him in the Hockey News at the tender age of 15. I felt especially connected to the player because we are both bi-racial and when I was younger I bore a slight resemblance to him (which even got me laid once in Halifax haha!) It's freaky realizing I've followed a player now for more than half my life.

Goodbye Captain. Hello tomorrow.

This has been the season from hell.
If he wins the cup with Pittsburgh, might there be a chance that he returns to the Flames in the offseason?

I thought my heart broke when Fleury was traded to Colorado. Just came off nightshift to walk into sports centre highlights and see the trade. Absolutely numb. Knew it was coming and still not like it really happened.

Hope after all he did for this team, team canada and as a hockey player he hoists the cup up this June............Then signs back with Flames July 1.

He should retire as a Flame and have his number retired by the Flames.

Good Luck Jarome. Still my favourite player.

This article is the best one that has been or will be written about the trade, and best sums up my emotions too.

Good luck Jarome and thanks for the memories. #12 forever.

Bingo, fantastic write up.

Reading this a few hours after the fact, it was the first time that I have really choked up at all or felt any emotion surrounding this inevitable outcome.

My ideal would see him win the cup and come back home, however I think he will be at least a season removed from that.
