Happy 65th birthday to Bobby Orr
Hard to believe he is at retirement age now. Still IMO the best dman to ever play the game, its just so unfortunate his knees didnt allow him a complete career.
1.4 PPG career average.
Calder trophy, 7 Norris trophies, 2 Art Ross trophies, 2 Conn Smythe trophies, 2 Hart trophies, 2 Stanley Cups
Remarkable guy.

Not just the best d-man, possibly the best player of all time. Offence, defence, and if you really pissed him off he was tough as nails as well.
If he had todays medical technology back then and he played a full career, I don't doubt he'd be considered the best player ever. A real shame.
Bobby Orr 1.The result of a women shaving pubic hair into a thin strip similar to landing strip. So named because of resemblance to the single strip of tape that Bobby Orr would place around hockey stick.
2.Fashion frequently modeled by New England area Strippers during the 1970's
Hey Joe check out the Bobby Orr on that Dancer!

I've watched a few old archived NHL games from back in the day, and the hockey was one step above div 6 beer league hockey games.
That's a little overboard but yeah it's better now but it's the reason that in my mind, you can only compare players of the same era and he dominated and changed the game for what is considered a top defenceman. I didn't like him much though, I was a Canadiens fan.
Orr had issues with his knee from his first season in the league. Obviously it was degenerative and his playstyle didn't do it any favours so by the time he retired it was pretty much bone rubbing on bone. But he suffered his entire career with it.
At the age of 27 he scores 46 goals playing on 1 leg during an era where you protected the lead instead of running up the score. That off-season he has 174276th knee surgery which finally does him in. it's crazy to think we never saw Orr in his prime and healthy.
Lemieux had his fair share of struggles as well, to say the least, but I think Orr and his knee is one of the biggest what-if questions in sports.
If Gretzky's career ended after his 10th season, there would be no debate. Gretzky would own the best player of all time discussions. Mario and Bobby supporters would be fewer IMO
Man i wish the Flames could have a generational talent like that, Iggy and Fleury were the closest we ever had and they are about two steps down.

Best D man ever to play the game, goals, assists, play making, leading the rush, QB the PP, kill penalties by just keeping the puck.
Fought , hit there wasn't anything Bobby Orr couldn't do out on the ice.
Except dodge every player that was trying to cheap shot his knees.
Calder on the worst teams in the NHL at the time.
Boston
8 Norris trophies and consecutively. His last full season btw.
3 Harts, that will never happen by a D man again, and consecutively.
2 Art Ross
8 Consecutive 1st team Allstar games
6 Times lead the NHL in +- has not been beaten.
Most +- in a season 124
2 Conne Smythe out of 2 SC Final appearances.
1 Lester Pearson
1 Lester Patrick
There isn't a single D man that can come close to this collection of accomplishments.
Bobby was the Best!

Before Boston signed Bobby Orr as a rookie they had missed the playoffs 7 years straight.
Next year lose in the 1st round
Following year lose in the 2nd round wins the Hart in only his 3rd year and as a D man.
4th year hoists the SC cup and named MVP.
