Iginla Wants To Remain A Flame

I know this will be a huge topic for discussion and debate as the season goes along, so I thought I would create a new thread.Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
"It would be my preference to stay here," Iginla talks about his contract, training camp & the 2013 season (VIDEO) ~ http://bit.ly/VOH6rj

Good, I hope he retires a Flame. At this point it's not going to be a guaranteed top ticket return so I'd rather see him here until he slides to 2nd line and the kids (Sven and Gaudreau) slot in top line. Iggy has a few years of primary scoring left and then will be an above average component of secondary scoring capable of offering unparalleled leadership to a younger squad and will always be good for clutch goals. Hope we'll see him hoist the cup one day ala Lanny.

It would be my preference for him to stay here too. It just has to be for the right amount of money. Be our Yzerman Iggy!

I hope Feaster and Meehan get this extension going and worked out finally. Iggy should retire as a Flame.

Well then put your money where your mouth is and sign a 4 year extension at $5mil/year.

Depends on what the return is for me. If another GM is willing to overpay for him and it makes the Flames better then I am all for it.

Even $5M is too much IMO. Iggy should get Matt Stajan's current contract.

What guaranteed 30 goal scorer makes $3.5M?

Considering Doan just got $5.3 per year for 4 years, Iginla is at least in line for $6M. Maybe $5.5 as a hometown discount.

Getting him at Stajan money is laughable.

Ideally yes or give him the Tanguay deal which is just an extra year.

I would also be okay with 4 year $16M or 5 year $20M

I have always wanted Iginla to retire as a Flame. I hope it happens.
 4 years/$22 million (7, 6, 5, 4)

That will take him to 40.

How much he makes on his next contract really comes down to what his future role on the team is. If we expect 37/38/39 year old Iggy to remain as our top-line RW go-to goal scorer, then ya, maybe he justifies a higher salary. But there's no way in hell we should pay him $5-6M/year as a depth scorer.

 = 6.5/5.5/4.5
 = 5.5M cap hit

I would rather not go higher on $$ or term

The going rate for a perennial 30 goal scorer with Iggy's resume will not be cheap.
I'd be happy with the Flames paying him fair market value, even if it's $1M too high in the latter portions of his deal. Whether he's a front line forward or 2nd/3rd line pp specialist at that point, I think he's earned that.

Iggy will at worst in my opinion be as good as Alfie has been in Ottawa and he is 39 still playing in a top 6 role. I suspect Iggy will be even better at 38/39 and will justify a 4-5 million dollar salary

Not only are we unwilling to move Iginla out, we are more than willing to overpay for his rapidly declining services.

Anyone got that Dark Knight "Not everything, not yet" Iggy pic?

I'd love for him to retire a Flame.
 I'd offer a 17.5M/4 year deal, 5.5, 4.5, 4 and 3.5, respectively.
