Baertschi assigned to Abbotsford. Backlund activated off IR
Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson #Flames LW Sven Baertschi just left Staples Center with his gear, will be assigned to Abbotsford later today.
Most likely Backlund will be activated off IR.

Disappointing but at the same time, give the kid another year in the farm and I am sure he will do fine next year. At least now he knows what it takes.

Queue the Comeau hate.
Obviously a little disappointing that Baertschi hasn't been able to hang in the big leagues, but I don't think this is a bad thing for him. Get him back into important roles on the farm, and give the heat some much needed scoring. Having our players grow in a winning environment is very important.

Hopefully Sven gets some good minutes down there and regain the confidence that he may (or may not) have lost.
Also, hopefully Backlund gets a fair shot to get back into the groove...but also a short leash if he doesn't. If after a couple weeks or less he's not showing the form he had in the small amount of games he did play, no matter the excuse, a guy like Sven is not held back over him.
These two players aren't mutually exclusive, I am just saying that I hope Backlund has the same measuring stick and standard as he does for Sven. Its clear from the Jones demotion that Hartley shouldn't care if Backlund's a natural center or not as to if he plays or not if he's struggling.

Good move as he wasnt quite there yet at the NHL level to contribute. Needs to be playing at least 15 minutes a night. I hope to see him back up towards the end of the season

I strongly believe that Backlund is a very important player for this team. Hopefully the injury didn't set him back too much.
I also believe he will follow a Brodie style emergence. ie: a bit of a leash to start, but easily proves that he deserves every minute of ice-time that he gets, with the odd hiccup.

I'm really hoping Backlund comes back with the fire in his belly he had early season.
I think Baertschi's really being hampered by the injuries he has suffered this season. It would be tough on any player, let alone a rookie, to maintain a high level through an injury-plagued season like he has had.
