Default Hockey Card Values Online

I found an old box of hockey cards in my parents' basement. I'm sure they're mostly worthless but thought I'd look them up anyway.

Is there somewhere I can go to see hockey card values online (for free)?

Your best bet is EBay IMO. Hockey card values are pretty meaningless. The only thing that matters is how much someone is willing to pay for them.

The hockey card market has also changed substantially. The only cards with any value are rare new cards or pre-1988 cards in mint condition.

The market right now kind of works like this: Only the best of the best old cards are really worth much as it is hard to find a buyer for any regular old card. Modern card companies produce limited numbers of certain cards. Lots of cheap cards for kids to buy and none will ever be worth anything. A few very rare cards are mixed in and they might be worth a bit now and possibly drop in value over time. Other cards are marked 1 of 5 (or some variant of that) which again is a limited issue card to drive up the value.
Some of the companies sell packs of cards in the several hundred dollar range which of course is like printing money, yet people buy them.
Ebay might just be the only way to go. Post one and see what you get.

Beckett is the website for finding out card values... costs though, otherwise as suggested best bet is to search recent sales on ebay.

Also this website will just sell them for you:
http://www.comc.com/
it's pretty good but best for cheaper cards you just want to get anything for, they won't really maximize value and obviously they charge for the service. I believe you just mail the cards to them and they will consult beckett and price them accordingly.

If you want to know a free ballpark number I would use http://www.tuffstuff.com/priceguides or http://sportlots.com/.

Tuff Stuff posts their 2009 catalogue. So, it is dated. But you will quickly find out which are the best cards in each set.

Sport Lots is actual sellers willing to sell their cards. You will be able to find most cards on there in a variety of conditions.

I like these both better than using eBay, since most cards are listed in both.

Perfect. I don't need an exact value, just want to know if one or two are valuable.

I've been using www.comc.com for about a year. It's a consignment site. I find that their charges for bringing your cards in to the website are pretty steep, however they are a growing website and stuff I never though I could get a penny for has moved.

If you have a small amount of cards look them up on comc.com and see how many of your card there are already consigned. If it is a lot, forget it. If there aren't any, you can likely move them fairly easily.

As Matty mentioned, you won't get top dollar and I haven't been able to move anything that has a decent value. (over $20).

A little off topic. But looking to buy a new set that isn't outrageously expensive, but has the chance at actually increasing in value.

Upper Deck Artifacts?
