Default Obama wins: Will he build keystone?

Does he let keystone get built now that he has won?

(I sure hope so, as I don't trust BC to be smart enough to let us build a pipeline west).

I'm almost certain it will be approved by the end of the year.

The main concern is a relatively short track of land in I think Nebraska that is wet lands, and whether it would be possible to just go around it, instead of by going through it. That was the hold up to start with. It doesn't seem like a huge issue to work around

Yeah, there is absolutely nothing to worry about on the Keystone. It'll go through.

It was only delayed due to the timing of it and the Congressional Republicans forcing Obama's hand to make him look bad in an election year. I wouldn't be shocked to see the tables turned and the Keystone approved in some grand compromise with House Republicans in the next couple of months.

Of course he will. Even though there aren't many permanent jobs from it, the temporary jobs will help and he doesn't have to worry about running again which makes all the difference in the world.

i think it will be a go - however, there will be more political bootstrapping before he puts his BO on the papers.

They have already submitted a new route to bypass the aquifer...Then on the existing ROW to Cushing.

I have been at the new swing site in South Dakota...Nothing but Corn & Soybean fields as far as the eye can see...

I could see him not doing it. I think he self identifies more with the metropolital/environmentalist wing of the Dems than the union/blue collar wing. Stopping a big bad bad foreign greenhouse gas enabling pipeline feels like it could be a legacy issue for him, and he doesn't need union voters to win midwest states again. I certainly hope he allows it because it'd be good for Calgary, but I don't think it's a slam dunk.

I don't think he has a choice but to push it through and quickly.

The advantage for Obama in the second term is he should not be as beholden to his fund raising and re-election efforts that were based around the celebrity cult.

His main priority has to be job creation and reduction of energy reliance, if he fails to do that then the next Democratic Candidate won't have an easy road to the white house.

To put it mildly.

If Obama doesn't actually deliver on fiscal issues, and deliver well, he'll essentially be paving the road for a very right-wing Republican that is actually a social policy threat to gays, women, immigrants etc., and not a moderate candidate like Romney was. Which may also be bad for the economy, but Americans seem to love the radical flip-flops when times are rough.

I don't really buy the destruction of America through Republican evil, the system has too many checks and balances, and any party that gets elected knows that any radical change will probably cause them to lose elections.

Plus unless the supreme court gets reconstituted anything nutty is probably going to get challenged and over ruled.

People said the same thing about Harper and the Conservatives and hinted at hidden agenda's but they really never came to pass because a saavy politician and leader knows that the path of destruction is littered with civil right errors.
