Budweiser Red Lights

If you're a die-hard hockey fan, chances are you have been looking for some NHL equivalent of the NFL's RedZone channel. Considering the fast-paced nature of hockey it's pretty tough to do but Budweiser in Canada might have found a close alternative.
During today's Super Bowl, the brewery is going to reveal a commercial for hockey fans in Canada -- sorry Americans -- to get really in touch with their hockey teams. When your favorite team scores, you'll know whether you are watching the game or not because you can have your very own red light and horn.
All you need is the app from wherever you get your apps from and the red light. Oh, and $149.

Sounds pretty neat at first read...but maybe a tad annoying in a week. Site is currently overloaded right now FYI.

Kind of a fun idea. I'd be into this for $50, but not for $150 and if they charged for the app, that would just be annoying.

Available now. I am passing on it, because it comes to $185 with shipping and taxes. Cool, but not $185 worth of cool.

Make no sense. With the broadcast delay, this thing would never be going off at an effective time.

I have kids. They do the same thing.
Although at $149 the light comes it at a much friendlier price point.

Sounds like fun until Bud gets tired of the server and app maintenance side of things, and then you have a doorstop unless you want to go hacking something together yourself.

Kind of want one. But $185 is very steep, and it scared me stating in their disclaimer that they may only support the data feed for a limited time.
Oddly enough, it's my mom that's gunning for me to get one, because she thinks it would be a neat thing to have for my games room. Problem is I don't have a games room!

Oh they had that right in their disclaimer eh! Of course, their website has been crashed all night, so I wasn't able to read that. Neither of which bodes well for the product really.

NHL.com is selling a similar thing. It's $50 and you press a button to make the red light/goal horn go off. I'd rather have that, really.

I was a little turned off when they said there is no determined amount of time they will support this. Combine that with the fact they aren't shipping until May 6th... Unless the Flames make the playoffs this light would be useless until October. Maybe come next season if they are still supporting the network and people have said it works well, then I'll be willing to drop a portion of my disposable income on one.

I am in the same boat as Sofa. I will wait to see how they perform and if Bud states the intention to keeping it going long term!

I bought one of those from sport chek. $50 and comes with all 6 Canadian teams' goal horn. It also comes with a wall mount and a cable to hook it up to your speakers. It can also just be the lights with no sound. Really good product in my opinion.

$150 for an item that is partially a marketing tool for Budweiser seems outrageous. Pretty cool idea. I like that it goes off automatically. I'm just not sure where the $150 price point is coming from. Surely they didn't spend that much on R&D? If so, they need to speak to someone in R&D, because this is going to flop.
