Default Embellishment City-Boston Bruins Vid

I know CP loves the Bruins for what they did in 2011, but please have a look at this vid. If the Canucks are going to be villified for diving, and I'm not here to start an argument on that at all, the Bruins should be as well.

Pretty embarassing stuff that doesn't get recognized much here.

Brad Marchand has always been a little weasel, but in a "guy I'd love to have on my team" kind of way, but this stuff is pretty weak. The shot of him telling the trainer, "I was trying to draw a five" was shameful.

You know when Jack Edwards, a big Bruins homer is upset by some of it, there's something wrong here.

I think when your own coach calls you on stuff, you need to change or get out.

On that note, I'd love to get him in part of a trade involving Iggy or Cammy or Tangs...

I'm certain that the reason it doesn't get vilified as much is probably because they aren't one of the Flames' biggest rivals, in addition to the fact that the Canucks are on tv at what would be prime time for most Flames fans.

I really do not think that diving is something that is not punished enough in the league.

Van, you have to admit, you'll never hear John shorthouse yell at Ryan Kessler to get up and get back into the play, or even make any other mention of it with maybe the exception of it being a 'veteran' maneuver even though he's a much better broadcaster.

I mean, in some capacity that video Illustrates quite the opposite of what is intended.

Brad Marchand is a cheap dirty diver. He's a rat. This is known (it is known!). But if you're going to create a video about how the bruins are hypocrites, you'll probably want to show a more diverse collection of the teams players diving routinely.

Marchand is embarrassing, but the I'm assuming Montreal fan who made that video may not like a rebuttal video on the subject.

Julien is right, of course.

I hate diving or any other activity that damages the integrity of the game.

Get the diving out of hockey. This isn't soccer. What a joke.

Not enough diving calls in my opinion, this has to be addressed by the league.

The Edwards stuff is edited in. The audio is actually him yelling at Hamrlik when Boston was playing him when he was with Montreal.

I hope that every diver gets called out on it. I fricken' can't stand watching divers - even last season when a few of the Flames did a couple of obvious dives, I felt embarrassed. It just removes so much integrity away from the game.

I love watching soccer, but soccer really needs to start coming down. For me, all integrity is lost now. I remember watching soccer when the stars would break tackles and go through a few defenders - very few try this any longer, as taking a dive puts them in a better position. It has - in my opinion - started making that sport ugly.

Hockey has always been to me an 'honorable' sport where guys play with grit, and last a very long season of hard hitting checks and physical play. I always looked at hockey players as some of the toughest and most durable athletes out there. To see this happening to hockey now by more and more teams - not just the Canucks, but MANY teams around the NHL now - it is such a travesty. Clamp down on this BS NHL!

That's pretty funny.

Julien goes on a rant about the Habs "embellishing" in last nights game, and so someone makes a highlight reel of the Bruins clearly embellishing themselves, with Julien's presser playing in the back ground.

Touche.

Want embellishing out of the game Claude?

Start with Marchand I guess.

Haha yeah, there is no way that Edwards would call out a bruin like that. Some pretty ugly flops in that video though for sure.

That being said diving has reached soccer levels in the NHL. All teams do it.

Haha, a Canuck's fan would know a dive when he sees it!

Sorry, couldn't help it.

The thing is (and I know this may not be a popular opinion), when done right, it is actually a pretty effective and strategic way to play the game.

It's the egregious embellishment that gets me. You embarrass yourself, your team, and your fan base when you make it so ridiculously obvious.

I think they can cut down on diving if they make a concerted effort and people within hockey actually make a point of handling things honestly. None of this false outrage like Julien in the video or Henrik Sedin or Marchand speaking out against diving while their teams are some of the worst offenders.

At the same time, refs need to be willing to call infractions without players making it completely obvious that a penalty has occurred. I don't think it's just a a coincidence that embellishment has increased as the number of penalty calls per game has dropped to a 30 year low and by the end of last season was about 50% of what it was in 05-06.

They should change the rule that if you call the minor and the dive the minor gets wiped out instead of this off setting bill crap.

Only call the dive not the offsetting crap they do now, call it a dive not "unsportsmanlike" or anything else and fine/suspend repeat offenders just like dirty players are now. Publicly shame and punish them.
