Default Smarten Up Hartley....Play Baertschi!

Is it just me or is anyone upset with the lack of ice time Sven is getting. I know he's young - Bigger minutes means better results! He's too good not too!

thoughts........

Just please give the kid a chance on the PP. The PP is garbage right now, it cant hurt to throw him on a unit and see what he can do. Getting a goal would be huge for his confidence right now.

He's played 3rd line minutes averaging 11 minutes a game. That is not that bad.

The issue is not overall icetime but that it sees no ice time on the powerplay.

Keep him sheltered on the third line and up the Powerplay time and he will be fine.

Its pretty bad

I'm OK with losing on purpose, but at least give your young guys a chance to play, and play with good players. Not a fan of Hartley so far this season.

I'm fine with him on the third line (as long as his linemates aren't of the Comeau variety) as long as he is getting at least the 10-12 minutes a game or more. What I am not fine with is a highly skilled player like him receiving no PP time on a team who's PP has been just terrible as of late. I don't pretend to know more than Hartley, but I really have to scratch my head on that one.

Not really.

You can throw him out there for 20 minutes a game, but if he's playing against top defenders with average linemates, he's not likely to be an impact player at his age and size. Would likely be detrimental to his development.

Thats why most prospects come into the NHL on the 2nd line, not 1st.

Steve Stamkos was sheltered his first season. Just sayin'....

IMO Bart has looked weak on the puck (other then his first couple games) and hasnt' really earned any extra time. We'd all like to see him play more, but until he gets stronger and earns it, I don't see a problem.

I really really can't wait for Backlund to get back. Those 2 had some amazing plays together and I think once Backs is back, we'll see Bart explode and start to put points up.

I'm still holding out hope that this is all part of Hartley and Feaster's master plan to show the ownership that the vets are not capable of getting it done.

Stamkos was mishandled, not sheltered. Why do you think Melrose got canned?

Give Sven a little more leash. He won't disappoint. Some players you just need to let them do their thing. And Sven is real darned good at doing his thing without being a liabiliity to the team. But, it is his first full season and teaching some sense of structure is good as well. we will see how the rest of this season plays out.

For the most part, I'm okay with his ice time. I would like to see him used on the PP though.

I wonder if he is being directed to be more of a safe player than to take offensive chances, because he hasn't really tried anything "fancy" since returning from his injury. He had good chemistry with Backlund and was trying to be creative, and we haven't seen that since then. Is it his linemates? Hudler and Cervenka haven't been playing like gangbusters the past few games. It seems like Baertschi isn't getting breaks lately. He isn't getting good passes and his linemates aren't in a position to get the puck from him. Whether that is a result of Baertshi not being the right place at the right time or his linemates not playing well, I don't know.

I'm fine with his ice time. Wish he did not have to play with Comeau though and got some PP. In a couple of weeks Sven will be getting all the ice time he needs.

For years we used to use that for our prospects... no wonder we haven't developed crap from our prospects.

Sven hasn't scored on the powerplay this year, so how can you justify playing him on the powerplay!

Yeah.

I believe you have to earn your icetime.

But I also believe you have to be given a chance to earn it.

Funny thing is I thought he earned his ice time in game 1, but was demoted next game and has been sliding down since.

Some may hate to hear this, but Baertschi played better last year under Brent Sutter when he had 1 less year of development (and no AHL time)... this stuff about Baertschi not earning it, do you really think he is getting worse?

Well he hasn't played on the powerplay all season save for a half a minute last game so how can you justify him not being effective on the powerplay.
