Icon48 2013 Entry Draft to take place over one whole day, June 30th

I don't like this. Spending a Friday night watching the first round of the draft is one of my favorite things. I hope it's just for this year because of the lockout.

Quote:
The 2013 NHL Draft will be held Sunday, June 30th, with all seven rounds being conducted on the same day for the first time since 2006. As previously announced, the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center will host the event, the first NHL Draft ever held in the New York City metropolitan area.

The draft gets underway at 3 p.m. ET as James Duthie hosts live coverage in Canada on TSN direct from the draft floor along with TSN's panel of experts. RDS will present exclusive French-language coverage throughout Canada. In the U.S., NBC Sports Network presents live coverage starting at 3 p.m. ET, while NHL Network in the U.S. continues live late-round coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET.
And the draft lottery is on April 29:

Quote:
The 2013 NHL Draft Lottery, to be held this year on Monday, April 29, will be the first in NHL history where all 14 clubs not qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, or the clubs that have acquired the first-round drafting positions of those non-playoff clubs, will have a chance at winning the right to the first overall selection. Under the previous lottery system, only the five teams with the fewest points in the standings had the opportunity to win the first overall selection as rules dictated no team could move up more than four spots.

I don't like that one bit. Well, actually - 3 pm is pretty neat for us in Europe.

They finally did the smart thing and changed it to Friday night prime time, now they move it to the worst possible day of the week.

Edit: Not as bad on Sunday with the late start, assumed it was going to be an early morning start like they used to be.

Has free agency been pushed back this season?

It's because the Stanley cup could be played on Friday June 28th so they can't schedule the draft that day.

Going to be a crazy week for GMs.

Stanley Cup finals potentially until June 28th, Draft June 30th, UFA July 5th.

They also added the interview process so free agents can start meeting teams starting at the draft.

I don't mind it. I would think that the first round will go faster now.

I wonder who the Wild will take with our first rounder, the 30th pick.

Nah, they still got the option to keep it and lose their 2014 first.

That would be great, with the other 28 picks already made, they would have to wait for a goal in double over time to see if the Flames get the 29th or the 30th pick.
