Queue the discussions whether or not the Flames should put a claim in.

He still has 8 years left on his deal.

Yashin is on their books cap wise until the end of the 14/15 season I think.
Not sure if they have to pay him that money every year or if he has already been paid out for his contract.

He counts as a $2.2 million cap hit every year until the end of 2014-2015. I think they pay him that money every year.

The guy was on his way to being a pretty solid #1 before everyone realized he was made of glass.

A pretty bad pick, but he was looking pretty good until he hurt himself at the all-star game. If this guy was healthy he would be a solid, good, not great #1.
But I could only imagine the Isles if they didn't make their moves to get Yashin and DP.

How so? His career has been plagued by inuries. There's no telling how good he could have been.
Daigle and Wickenhiser are two of, if not the worst.

I feel really bad for the guy, he's been pretty cursed injury wise and from what I've read he's a good kid and he wants to play.
I don't begrudge any guy who gets a goldmine contract and signs it, the amount of money the Islanders are spending is really not his fault.
It would be better for the Isls if he could play and play longterm.

Chris Johnston @reporterchris A Rick DiPietro contract buyout doesn't actually look too bad. Of course, it would mean the #Isles would be paying him until he is 48.

From Wikipedia: On March 13, 2007, DiPietro suffered a concussion after a collision with Montreal Canadiens forward Steve Bégin when DiPietro raced out to poke check a puck at the blueline at 15:41 of the first period.
Ironic no?
He had serious hip and knee injuries just as he was breaking into the league and posting good numbers. We'll never know what kind of player he could have been. Hip and knee injuries are death for a butterfly goaltender.

Related to the rumors of Wang putting the team up for sale? I would think so.

Not a bad move actually. His NHL numbers have been horrific, so throw him on waivers. I' m sure they realize he's going to clear, but then at least he can go to the AHL and get some serious playing time to determine if there's anything left.
Expecting that there's not, they can buy him out this summer.
