Shaw Contracts/Retention
First of all, I wanted to ask if anyone else's Shaw bill just went up for this month. I wasn't aware that they could just bump up the price on you, especially without any communication to that effect. I'm just on month to month, but I had talked to them previously about services. They told me that I was paying less now for Broadband 50 than what it would be if I were a new customer and that I was grandfathered in with the old price. If that's the case, why does the cost of my services go up?
Second of all, has anyone had any success negotiating a better deal with Shaw while you're a current customer? I talked to retentions once after our 6 month promo and they said they wouldn't offer a deal to people coming off a promotion. It's now been over a year, and I'm not really satisfied with their service for what we're paying. We have Broadband 50 (which I want because I play on Xbox Live, and my wife likes to watch TV shows online.. although we can't do them at the same time wirelessly, so Shaw is coming over to check that out tonight), and just basic cable with one theme pack for $120. I feel like I could do better, or at least go with Telus for a promo to save a bunch of money.
Anyone have anything better? What kind of deals do you have?

I'm also on a Grandfathered plan from a long time ago. (probably 2004/05 or 08/09)
They notified me on my last bill that the price will be increasing on my existing packages. It wasn't obvious, you had to read your bill over to find that they were bumping up the price.
Still cheaper than what I can get on Telus or shaw currently, I haven't called them yet to see what I can get. I do want to bump up my internet package, but not sure if I can get a grandfathered rate for that.

I'm in the middle of leaving Shaw for Telus. Shaw phoned to ask why I was canceling and offered a free gateway box right away. I'm sure you could push for more.

Am thinking of getting rid of home phone service altogether. Get 4 calls a week that could easily be on the cell phone. Anyone do that and regret losing your phone number of 15 years?

i dropped my landline years ago when i moved to my current place. don't miss it one bit, friends and family always called my cell anyways. if you don't have kids i really don't see the point of having one

I don't have a land line either. My wife each have our own cell phones. But when the kids age a bit, we will be getting a land line for sure

My daughter is always on the phone with her friend. I don't want to get her a cell so a landline is great for her

Well Shaw guy came and gave me a brand new router which didn't solve the problem of my Xbox Live (NHL 13 in particular) games disconnecting.
Is it possible to do the "bridging" thing like you can with the Telus router and use my own router instead? How do I go about doing that?

Call Shaw and they can do it.

When the Gateway for Shaw first came out they were offering this fantastic deal of the gateway and 2 portals, plus TV, plus BB 50 and a land line (Lite phone) for $90 a month plus a $5 equipment rental... guaranteed pricing for 3 years.
I called in and told them I'd like the deal, the CSR said it was for new Shaw customers only. I asked if that's how they rewarded long time loyal customers by giving them the shaft to appeal to new customers... the CSR put me on hold to go and ask her manager came back and gave me the deal.
This was well over a year ago, but I've had at least 3 or 4 friends call in and get the exact same deal.
In my case I've been a shaw customer for at least 10-15 years so that may have helped. I've heard it's harder now that Shaw and Telus aren't bending over backwards to try and poach customers from each other... but back then it seemed to depend a lot on the luck of the CSR draw.
