Default Big Announcement Regarding AECL

"OTTAWA — On Thursday, February 28, the Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, will speak to the 2013 Canadian Nuclear Association Annual Conference and Trade Show. There he will make announcements related to the Harper Government’s initiatives to position the nuclear industry for future success."

I can't wait for this news. What do all the energy experts and enthusiasts in the room think this will be about?

My guess is that they announce a program award for Small Modular Reactors similar to the one the US DOE just awarded to B&W for their mPower model.

Possibly re-vamped regulations regarding such projects as well?

Maybe news about Chalk River?

Something about a Sino-Canadian thorium research project?

Very exciting... I actually can't sleep because I've been thinking about this all day.

I'm just excited that this is pushing us ever closer to the nuclear apocalypse I've dreamt of since I was a little boy.

lol that would be the hope, we could repopulate the globe from Iceland with sexy viking people.

UPDATE: AECL Labs will be going to a Government Owned, Private Operated model. Will be opening the M&O contract up to bids from private industry.

Well I would imagine that such a move might encourage the owner of the M&O contract into being more agressive with establisbhing new labs or facilities designed for researching Gen III+ or Gen IV technologies.

It will certainly be very interesting to see who bids.
