Canucks' malhotra placed on ir, will miss rest of season
Looks like his eye is causing him issues

According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, there are deep concerns that Malhotra's eye injury/vision are not at a level to allow him to safely play the game. Malhotra is reportedly not prepared to formally retire at this time.

He's done, Jim.
Gonna hurt the Canucks in the faceoff dot, no question.
Wish him nothing but the best now that his career is over.

Very sad to hear. Malhotra is a very classy guy on and off the ice. Wish him the best!

Too bad. One of the few Canucks that I don't mind that much.

When I saw the title preview "Malhotra placed on..." I got excited and thought he was on waivers. If healthy he could have been a huge boost to our center depth.
Sad to see careers ended by injury and not by age.

Major loss to the Canucks.
With Kesler still out and Malhotra now gone there's a major gap in who's going to take defensive zone faceoffs for the Canucks. Malhotra gets absolutely buried in this regard and it lets the Sedins start nearly every shift in the offensive zone. Either they're going to have to pick up the slack and start more shifts in their own end (and their production will suffer) or the Canucks are going to have to find someone to fill Malhotra's job (which likely leads in them getting lit up).

Liked Malholtra as a player, hated his guts as a canuck.
Looks like losing him wont hurt nearly as much as Kesler has been cleared to play.

Rumour is that he'll stay on as an unofficial asst. coach at least for the remainder of the season.

Que conspiracy theories, but Kesler is expected back very soon (possibly against Dallas). Malhotra going on IR opens up enough space to make no real roster move to keep thing status quo.
Career is likely over, which is a damn shame. He was the center the Canucks had been desperate for and helped propel the the Sedins and Kesler. That said, he was worse than mediocre last season outside of face-offs and wasn't much better this season. That injury turned his career into a lit stick of dynamite and now it exploded =\.

I'll bite. If he can't play, shouldn't he have to retire? Seems like a convenient way to circumvent the cap since he's under 35 his cap hit would've still counted.

That is a shame. The only Canuck that wasnt total slime.
He had far too much class and integrity to be playing for that team.

Class act all the way. Sad to see his career possibly end the way it did.
With Kesler back most likely tomorrow, this does open up a spot to keep Schroeder up with the team who deserves it.

He hasn't decided for sure that retirement is his only option is their story. I suspect they're going to try a few surgical procedures to do what more that can to help him play again; but really he's probably done. That sort of thing is just too inhibiting in a sport like this one.
