I like it. When Kipper went down I didn't have a lot of expectations, but Leland sporting a 2-1-1 record in the first four games is nice. I expect to see MacDonald play against Phoenix on Monday, being that it's the second game of back to back road games.

Hopefully they can put a string of victories together, especially since the next three games are against the teams that are in 7th, 8th and 9th in the standings.

good, I think he deserves it. Looking at the last few games, he sure had a few shaky moments, but overall, I thought he was pretty solid. I hope they'll give MacDonald a couple of starts before Kipper comes back though - just curious how he fares in comparison to Irving.

We've come a long ways from the days we hoped and prayed our back-up goalie could maybe start a game and maybe get us 1 win on the season as the starter. At least now we've taken the next step and can actually critique our back-up's technique all while he's gotten us 5 out of 8 pts.

Guy has earned it!

Good. I would give MacDonald Dallas on Sunday.

MacDonald needs practice time. This is a guy that has not played since March 4th of last season and has been out the majority of that time with a back injury limiting his practice time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Irving keeps going for a while yet.

Good to see him get the call to start. It Irving's team until Kipper comes back.

Good to hear.

Hopefully Macdonald gets 0 games and spends his time sitting on the bench which is what he does best.

Hopefully the 1st and 3rd period Irving are the real him and we never see another 2nd period like last night out of him for a very long time.

MacDonald had been practicing with the Wings for 3 weeks before the waiver claim. Nevertheless, Irving should be their go to guy until Kippers healthy; I'd be happy if we don't ever see Macdonald play a game for the Flames

The only way he gets benched is if he has a poor performance in a loss. If he plays well and we lose (like in the Vancouver and Minnesota games) or he's shaky and we win (like in the Dallas and Columbus games), he'll remain the starter until Kipper is back.

It could be good mentally to declare him as the de facto starter in order to calm him down a little.

I know in the other signing thread I said Irving deserves some start time but after watching last night I'm not so sure anymore. It's a damn good thing Flames put up 7 last night because I didn't feel that Irving, in any way whatsoeever, resembled a qualified NHL goaltender.

Good for him. people have been too hard on the guy, he hasn't even had 10 games in the NHL yet. Plus right now he doesn't have the comfort of if he screws up Kipper is there.

If the flames offense want running on all cylinders last night, we lose big time and say Irving is done as a flame... So blind. Until he makes more than one highlight save a game, i am concerned. The flamrs will not be able to spot irving a 3 goal lead every game.

I haven't been a big fan of Irving this year but do think he should be getting the start considering he won last night and the Flames need to allow him to build confidence.
