Default Rhett Warrener calls out Iginla and Iggy responds!

Atta boy Iggy! 2 assists, a fight and he lead this team in more ways then one tonight. Gotta love how the Flames responded after his fight with that goal and then Iginla setting up Glencross soon after.

The question to me is why did it take Warrener to question Igina's compete level for him to finally show up? He makes 7 million dollars a year, he's the captain of this team, don't you think he should be playing with heart every night? The Post game interview on tsn Iggy said "I don't think I lost a step" You can tell he was pissed off at what Warrener said and he was going to prove he still had that fire... I only wish he competed like that all the time. A good example of a player that always competes is Jagr... Colour me impressed.. what a player.

I'm considering asking Warrener to call out Iggy before every game on the fan, Iggy might want to punch him in the face but you cant deny the results...

Rhett is not the reason Iginla had a good game. He might be the reason TSN pushed the storyline, but Iggy has been playing well and was/is due to break out.

I see this is positive to have Rhettro doing this...when was the last time a call-out against Iggy working?...when Darryl Sutter was the head coach.

If any one has the balls or guts who can speak volume, Rhettro is one of those.

That Minnesota game begs to differ .

Loved his play tonight though.

I agree he's been playing well but if you don't think Rhett had anything to do with how Iginla altered his game tonight then I don't no what game you were watching. This was his first fight of the year and he almost had another. He played with much more fire tonight and was in on every play. He didn't focus on the perimeter but he was the first forward in on the forecheck and pushed the play. Rhett calling him out definitely had some impact on his performance tonight.

Iginla validated Warrener's opinion tonight. All of a sudden somebody calls it as they see it, as everybody sees it, and suddenly Iginla is back ready to play and compete.

Ridiculous. Same thing happened with Bourque when Hrudey called him out.

I commented in the PGT about Warrener so I'll copy it here...

I don't think he was ever on Iggy's Christmas card list. Warrener has called Iggy out at an extremely high rate ever since he got his sounding board with the FAN. I think him and Iginla never saw eye to eye and Warrener has chosen to use his position as media to say what he wants about him.

As Iginla showed though, he's in a different league with respect to class than Warrener and simply brushes it off each time Warrener throws darts.

For a 5/6 defenceman throughout his career at best, Warrener really should just shut up. He isn't even close to Iginla's league.

Why should he shut up? It is his job in the media now to talk about what he sees.

Plus he was right, Iggy just proved that by actually playing with some fire tonight.

Rhett is paid to have opinions and his opinion on Iggu was nothing earth shattering. Non story.

Don't think you can give all the credit to Warrner. Iggy knew his game was not up to snuff. I have no doubt the coaches told him his game was not up to snuff. Warner's comments were just the cherry on top.

I don't think Warrner said anything wrong. Tonight's game was head over heals better than his last couple of games. Iggy also looked horrible down the stretch last year.

Iginla is a well known slow starter. I don't think Rhett was the reason he stepped up

I don't even think he had a good game tonight to be honest. His line was hemmed in their own zone floating around way too often.

It was like a pond hockey game and he got his points but thought he could have played better.

I too would like to take credit for Iggy's 2 assists and a fight.
I was all over the place in the "Trade Iginla Thread"

I am certain he read my posts.

1st off, Iggy didn't really need to even fight to make us know he was fired up for the game last night. I think he played like that on most nights anyway. The only difference is that the 4 games, plus the first 2 games they lost, almost everyone showed up to play with him. With the other games that they lost or tied in regulation time, it seemed that his line mates were just passing time and collecting their paychecks for the night.

Secondly, on most night, where's his frickin' supporting casts? Most of his line mates are either made up of 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th line players that floats around or run around in their own zone making turnovers. So, most times, there are 5 opposing players with 4 other guys chasing two opposing forwards and you'd expect Iggy to like cover 3 other opposing players?

My question to Warrener is, can he even play defence in the post lockout era (prior to this previous one)? My answer is an astounding NO and that's why Sarich is still playing today and not him. So STFU, Warrener.

Exactly ...

I got blasted pretty good for saying the same thing after Monday's game on this site, so it was good to see I wasn't alone.

I like Iginla, I think he's a good guy. He's been a warrior for the Flames. But he has one of the biggest gaps between being on and off of any player I've seen wear a Flames jersey since maybe Kent Nilsson.

That just isn't acceptable when you're a captain.

I have my head fully around the idea that he isn't 25 any more, and I expect and have no problem with a decline.

But when you don't seem to care about defensive coverage, you stop skating when you get the puck, and you lose every single battle including the turn over that leads to Minnesota's only goal?

You're not showing up.

He's better than that, and last night it looks like he was angry enough to prove it.

Hope Warrener rides him all season.
