I was really disappointed in Iginla last night.

Stopped skating whenever he had the puck
Was back in that don't cover anyone in your own zone mode
Left the zone early
Lost every puck battle
Lazy turn over for the goal

Whatever Hartley got into him early has faded, and he's back to the guy of the last three years again.

sigh

Parise is sick apparently, so we might see Minnesota with more jump next week. He's usually very energetic but wasn't a factor in this game at all until the shootout. I also think that the Flames defense played pretty well on the boards against a physically stronger team. They're not as incapable of physical play as they sometimes seem.

Setoguchi calls it "one of the ugliest wins you'll ever see," and he's not wrong, but it was so tight that I didn't find it boring. A lot less boring than the Vancouver game.

Postgame, Yeo says that the Wild's execution was "very poor," but the structure of their game was solid. You could say the same about the Flames.

He's an old dog that IMO only ever looked happy when he was able to do whatever he wanted under Keenan. Even Warrener today on the radio is saying it looks like he's lost the fire and isn't the leader this team needs as he's (in Warrener's words) a 'follow me on the ice' type of leader not a vocal guy and he's not an example to follow on the ice. Also says he no longer looks like a dangerous top scorer.

We lost the game because we couldn't score. Losing 3 of our top 9 forwards sucks because we only have 2 scoring lines with Iggy-Tanguay plus Hudler-Cervenka line. I really like Glencross but he is not a first line forward. I think he plays better in the 3rd line with Stempniak and Stajan where he can be physical and not worry about going back. I can't remember how many times we missed the opportunities in scoring tonight's game against the Wilds. Comeau still sucks and can't shoot.
As far defense is concerned, i thought we did really well. Having Sarich in the lineup really fired up the physical players. In the first period alone Sarich was hitting everyone and the whole 4th line was doing the same. TJ Brodie is getting better and better every game. He looks very confident every game.

Street was great last night. He played with jump and urgency, and was a factor every shift. We need more players to show that kind of enthusiasm.

You have your mind made up about Iginla it seems. One bad game and it's "whatever was into him has faded"?

Especially when you seem him live, the opposition defence have no fear of him driving wide, so he gets no space. It's easy to see what Hartley wants to do, with a quick transition game, but his horses are far too slow.

Not really surprising is it? This is how he plays when there is a Keenan like coach in charge. No defensive minded coach giving him the gears then he floats. As you say not like we haven't seen it before. He is a one dimensional scorer now so let's hope he starts potting a few.

Iginla is just getting old and like most players when they get old, their intensity drops. He shouldn't be our best player anymore, and any disappointment should be aimed toward previous management that had no succession plan in place.

As long as those #12 jerseys sell we're all good though!

You know the Canucks have lost their whole second line and they are still winning, its called depth within the organization. Leaders need to start leading this club.

Contrary is that whatever was into him was short term like a hot or cold streak. Eight games to start a season and fans are really surprised he's settling back to the same player of the past five years?

sigh

In order for the flames to win, their top players need to deliver (kipper, iginla, tanguay, bouwmeester, giordano).

This group, outside of bouwmeester for the most part, has been avg to below avg night in and night out, and hence few wins so far.

I hate the constant line juggling. I understand that we need to shuffle because of injuries but the line that had chemistry should of stayed the same (Cervenka, Stajan, Hudler). Glencross is becoming Bourque 2.0.

Well I guess we can suggest I'm jaded and biased. That certainly happens (I work with a guy that was convinced Langkow was one of the worst Flames in team history), but I honestly don't think so.

I've paused a game to show my 10 year old his defensive coverage numerous times. It doesn't take a lot of searching in a game to find him doing nothing in his own zone, just find a shift with #12 on the ice.

It crept back in Columbus, the whole team was bad in Vancouver, and last night he was brutal.

So one game isn't fair.

I hope I'm wrong, he was a different guy in the first 5 games of the season.

My thoughts:

Iginla's worst game of the season, he played like Comeau. He knows it though and I see him being a beast next game. Stajan, Street, Cervenka, and Hudler had good games. Tanguay and Iginla were turnover machines and made dumb plays throughout the night

The defence was really good, can't really think of a mistake they made all night. Hopefully Sarich stays in the lineup after a solid effort, his footspeed really isn't there anymore but he makes it work most nights. Thought Butler had a good game too.

Irving did what was asked of him, he looked awful in the shootout but can't really fault the guy for the loss. I think he has earned the next start but who knows what the coaches are thinking

All in all a good physical game. If Iggy and Tanguay had better games I think we would be looking at a 2-1 win. If this is the way the team plays all season then I am happy

This is all it is.

This organization and most of its fan base is stuck in the past.

Just waiting for owners and management to finally understand that. Apparently could be waiting a while... a LONG while...
