Would the NHL even allow that?
Obvious cap tinkering there.

Shouldn't this be in the trade speculation thread until someone other than Eklund reports it?

No he just declared he won't play this season.
He has already told the Bruins he plans on playing again next season. The Bruins suspended him when he didn't report and tolled the last year of the contract.

confirmed by Isles beat writer:
Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday Reports out there are correct: #Isles have acquired G Tim Thomas for a conditional 2nd-rounder in either 2014 or 2015.

Surprised they gave a 2nd rounder, Boston probably would have taken a some spare pucks.

Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday Move is cap-related -- #Isles needed to be over the floor by tomorrow, needed insurance against not being cap compliant the entire season.
Lol spent a 2nd round pick to get to the cap floor? ROFL
Steve Staios not available to take a bonus laden contract Snow?

Actually this makes some sense...they get to the cap floor without actually spending another dime.
And with the move to Brooklyn still a ways away, they need to pinch pennies.
