Can't argue with the assessment on Emery. Best goaltending performance I have seen in years. Incredible how his pads were always in the path between the puck and the goal line.

Can't say I agree with the Mr. Clutch title going to Glencross. Hossa scoring with 2 seconds left seems like an obvious choice, but I think there's about 40 players tonight more deserving. Not to completely rag on Glencross, but he was the exact opposite of clutch tonight with all the chances he didn't score.

The goat should go to Hartley for calling the timeout after the goal and putting the Stajan line on the ice.
The Hawks were beat, all the momentum was with Calgary, and he calls a timeout only to put bambi-soft Stajan on the ice to finish? Brutal.
All in all a very nice game by the Flames. Can't help but think that bad teams find ways to lose.

Flames played well. Great all around effort.
Liked Top 3 Lines, Kipper, Jackman, Jones. offensive side of D
Dislike Comeau waive or 1 way to abbotsford pretty much useless, D very weak in own end need to start putting bodies on the ice.
Hate the fact this team can make any goalie look real good

The goat was the ice quality tonight.
We have a skilled team this year, and a small team. Cant have them playing with choppy ice. We may as well put tennis balls out there because thy wont bounce as much as the puck does.
As One of Butler's harshest critics, i have to admit he was very good out there tonight. On national TV. Perhaps we should sell high...
Our pp sure could use some help gaining the zone. Id love to swap Stajan's cap hit for Jokinen
Cbc with an interesting stat. We had only 7 hits tonight. We cant keep that up. We need more grit in the top 9, but as i say that, im loving the fact we can roll 3 lines. We havent been able to do that in 20 years. Not sure who we need more physicality out of...
Loved the game tonight, outcome aside. Really fun to watch.
Kipper was awesome. Great bounce back performanace

Cammallari didn't seem to mind being demoted to the second line. These guys just have to regain their winners attitude that Brent destroyed and start putting the puck in the net. Emery looked good but some of it was the Flames poor shooting.

If they could regain their winners attitude that Brent destroyed they could at least lose in the first round of the playoffs then. So sad, what could have been if not for Brent, all those first round losses that Iginla and co. could have accumulated.
Losers lose and the Flames lost to a winning team and a winning franchise.

There can be little doubt that the Hartley system is effective.
The problem is that the players still have to learn to play under pressure. Learn how to win. We'll get on a bit of a roll this season when the pucks start going in and if we learn to still use our brains when the pressure really mounts. I think once (or if) that happens this team will start to be good.
Let's just hope it happens soon. Like, Tuesday soon.

they played great, their shootout skills are horrendous. I will support this team for a long time....go flames go!
I think they can progress and get better, the dominated tonight, who can doubt that???

Bouwmeester was Mr. Clutch this game. It's like he's a different player this season.

Thanks for the write up.
Frustrating loss, they played great but still lost. They need to win a couple in a row or something...1 win in six games is brutal.
This one kind of stings IMO.

Unlike the Colorado game, which was a huge disappointment, I can't take anything but positives out of this game.
If you told me after the Avs game that the Flames would dominate the league leading Blackhawks for most of the game and come out of their with a point I would have gladly taken the point. Sure the Flames deserved better given the game, but after the Avs game I think most people were expecting a massive hawks blow out and steam rolling of the Flames. I'll take a point and move on to positives.
I really hope that Iginla shakes off his beginning of the season slump sooner rather than later. If Iginla starts scoring again I can easily see this team ripping off a three or four game winning streak with the way the Czech line is playing and the Glencross/Backlund/Stempniak line is playing.

If they keep playing like this, the wins will come. Just bad breaks tonight.
Iggy needs to start scoring as well. If we would have had 3 goals by Iggy over the first 6 games (the pace he should be scoring at), we'd have at least another couple of wins. I'm actually feeling good about this team as I know that Iggy and Kipper will get going and once they do, the wins will come.

This is the best the Flames can possibly play...
Brodie had a few Butleresque moments but was saved by Kipper
They looked "Sedin-tough" they were pushed around but didn't back down and kept coming for more.
With this line-up it is the best you can hope for.
Vancouver saw this more skill than grit...... even though they were way tougher than this version of the Flame and were forced to trade Hodgson for Kassian.
Brodie or Baertschi are not quite at the level Hodgson was when he was traded. Backlund might be getting there. All good young players but the Flames need more Glencrosses and have too many Cammalleri/Tanguays.
That is why Montreal took Bourque for Cammalleri... right now Montreal is winning that trade by a large margin.
I would like to see a stat on how many goals go in with Bouwmeester behind the goal line to the right of the goal for no apparent reason.
The Flames have no obvious D-man other than Gio to put on the ice in the Last minute of protecting a one-goal lead.
They have 7 D-men to put on the ice trying to score a goal trailing but one....everyone but Sarich.

Scoring Winger

I went to the game last night (first one this season), which I find always gives me a better perspective than on TV, as you can just see so much more. Here are some random thoughts:
- Overall, probably the most entertaining game I've been to since the '04 run. Up tempo pace, great offensive effort from the D, and more quality chances created than in 2 weeks under either Sutter.
- Wideman is a great signing. That guy hits the net like clockwork from the point. And he's no defensive liability at all. Played the entire 2 minutes on the PP in OT, and I thought he was one of the best Flames all night.
- Everyone's favourite whipping boy (myself included) J Bo, must be loving Hartley's system. The D were pinching all night, and the go-ahead goal would never have been scored prior to Hartley, because J Bo would have been standing back at the blue line. Our blue line.
- The only big name D man who doesn't seem to like the new regime is Giordano. He was invisible out there, and as more time passes, it seems like the promise he displayed a few years ago will never be fulfilled.
- I'm losing faith that you can chock up Iggy's lack of production to his traditional slow start. I think he's lost a step out there, and from my perspective, he wasn't a factor in this game. He's no longer a 1st liner, even on this team, and when he had the breakaway in the 2nd, I just knew he wouldn't score.
- Kipper wasn't bad, made a few good saves, but he just had to make that save on Hossa at the end, and in prior years would have. A sad state of affairs when his .895 save% last night improved his season stats. Drastically.
- Hudler and Cervenka were the best two forwards for the Flames, and they have great chemistry. They even make Stajan look like a legitimate 3rd line centre, which is a drastic improvement from last year.
Overall, this team is heading in the right direction, and I give a lot of credit to Hartley. I have hope for the future, especially when some big numbers come off the cap (Iggy, Kipper, Cammalleri), and we can attract some more good free agent talent.
