Hartley's 7-game plan
So, this news story states that Hartley is splitting the season up into seven game segments. The team needs to win 9 points during each segment in order to breach the 60-point barrier, which Hartley believes would set them up for the playoffs in the West.
In this post I'll detail the seven game segments, and keep them updated as to the quest for nine points in each. Thought it might be neat to follow along.

* vs Sharks - Sharks 4, Flames 1: 0 pts
* vs Ducks - Ducks 5, Flames 4: 0 pts
* @ Canucks - Flames 2, Canucks 3 (SO): 1 pt
* vs Oilers - Oilers 3, Flames 4: 2 pts
* vs Avalanche - Avalanche 6, Flames 3: 0 pts

60 points is 0.625%
That would them in the mix for a possible home ice advantage for round 1 IMO.
Good. Aim higher than just a chance at eighth.

That sounds hopelessly optimistic.
He knows that hes coaching the Calgary Flames right?

I love Hartley's enthusiasm and positivity, along with this kind of daily diligence.

In 2004 Sutter's 7 game plan was close. pretty sure it was with games left in regular season and if we win 8 7 game series we will win the stanley cup.

Well 9 each would be 63 which is pretty damn good. Gives us a few chunks to only get 8 points in (especially the last one which only has 8 games).

So we need to win the next 3 to meet the bare minimum for the first 7 games eh?

I admire the idea but this may not be the best start to the plan.

hec, he could plan every game being game 7 of the stanley cup final but if the tallent isn't there, it isn't there. I know everyone wants to see this team win but its the same team that hasn't been winning for a few years now.
Unless he comes up with a plan that includes a delorian that can bring us back to 2004 or 1989 he's in for a rude awakening.

To scrape into the playoffs we need 7 points every 6 games or .583.

There were only 26 teams in 94-95, but the cutoff for playoffs was East 47 pts and West 42 pts. Stupid 3 point games screwing everything up.
Edit: 94-95 factoids, the Quebec Nordiques led the east with 65 pts and the Leafs made the playoffs in the Western Conference...oh those were the days

Yeah, and to get 9 points in 7 games they have to win all three in a row.

Stealing Darryl Sutter's game plan from 2004 I see.
Well, hopefully it gets us back in the playoffs, back in the finals, and wins us a Stanley Cup.

Well, block 1 isn't going to yield 9 points. They'll have to earn an extra 2 points in another block in order to meet Hartley's goal.
