Default Farewell Gift Help

I've got a good friend moving to Abu Dhabi for a few years to take a job that will have him traveling to Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) quite a bit.

This man is made of the whitest of breads and he is moving to a foreign and dangerous land. He is normally so risk adverse and this is so far from what he would normall do that I have no idea if what he has done has sunk in or not. Before you ask, yes there is a girl involved!

A group of the guys want to go in on a nice parting gift as we won't see him for a while and I am pretty sure he is going to be homesick as hell 15 minutes into the flight. We're pretty stuck on ideas for such a momentus and rare occasion in a man's life.

Has anyone here lived there before and can suggest a nice gift for a kid born and raised in Halifax? Speaks fluent french and english, is an accountant, huge flames/habs fan (long time season ticket holder).

Cheers!

Sorry I have to ask, is there such a thing as an "indoors" compass?

OP, I love your description of him.

What is the bromance level here?

Maybe a watch? An engraved ESQ? Or one of those nice Roots jackets? Although, he probably won't need it in the UAE!

Great long time friend of mine, but really he is like a brother to my cousin who is like a brother to me. So... he's kind of like a brother to me too (if that makes sense), ha!

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I should have realized that I left myself open for that one....

However an "indoor compass" is one specially designed to always point to the beer kept in a fridge.

Was he a victim of vaginal expansion?

I'd go with the NHL Gamecentre idea along with maybe a VPN service so that he can show up as being in North America since Gamecentre might limit service to countries in the middle east.

Sometimes you're so drunk, you forget where the fridge is.

Interesting idea. I'm sure he'll have internet connection.

How would one go about getting a VPN set up for this?
