Hemp Force Protein
Im sure there are some folk in here who listen to Podcasts, and as such have probably listened to some Joe Rogan Experiences before...
He is always talking about Hemp Force Protein and how fantastic it is...has anyone tried it? Liked it? Hated it? Can you even buy it in Calgary? (I would prefer to just buy it in store, rather than having to order it online to try it...)
Here is the bottle:
Interesting stuff, claims less than 1g of sugar and all natural, tastes unbelievable, and WAY easier to digest than common Whey Protein.
Anyone tried this, or any of that other crazy Alpha Brain stuff he is yakin on about?

I'm sure it's a good product, but the price seems kinda out there. I eat hemp seeds and take Maca supplements, which seems to be about the same thing.

Never heard of it myself.
There is only 16g of protein in a single 39g serving which Im not sure I like- typical whey protein is closer to 30g a serving. They do say you don't as many grams of protein in a serving if it is a "slow digesting special blend", but Im not sure if that is true or not. It also says there are only 10 servings per container. At first I thought the $50 was standard, but a little pricey if it is only a 400g container.
Anyways, I have never had a problem digesting whey powder, but I know many people do. The biggest thing I look for is taste and a powder that dissolves easily. I hate the cheap crap that has chunks floating around regardless of how much you blend or stir.

According to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20977230:
protein source PDCAAS (%)
casein 100
egg white 100
beef 92
soy protein isolate 92
chickpeas (canned) 71
pea flour 69
kidney beans (canned) 68
dehulled hemp seed 61
pinto beans (canned) 57
rolled oats 57
lentils (canned) 52
hemp seed 51
hemp seed meal 48
whole wheat 40
almond 23
PDCAAS = Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score. One reason hemp scores so low is because lysine, leucine, and tryptophan are all limiting amino acids, meaning hemp is not a complete protein; our bodies utilize protein only to the limit of said limiting amino acid. The effect on you depends on your diet.
At the end of the day whey is cheaper, a complete protein, digests quickly (vs casein), and has a lot of research backing it.

It's about what the body can assimilate. Some people after ingesting whey protein feel bloated, sick, even throw up. Hemp is a complete food, unlike whey. But if your goal is to only build muscle mass and you are not particularly concerned about nutrition or health, or even how you feel, whey is a better choice.

Had an idea!

I guess whatever floats your boat. Whey is much better, and Casein is better if you want slow digesting protein.

Priced to high and not enough protein per serving. Much better to find a decently priced isolate whey powder.
I don't even care if hemp is better then whey, whatever, get your nutrients from real food and use protein shakes immediately after work outs or when you are too lazy to cook.

I guess some people can tolerate taking whey every day, not me and a few people I know. The stuff makes me feel like crap basically, hemp protein the opposite I love the stuff, and was a skeptic myself.

Not sure I get this.
What is the point of a protein power that is 33g a serving and only half is protein?
My Whey is 37g a serving or something and has 33g of protein and no sugars at all. Also people get sick from Whey? The fata?

not sick, but you've never had a shake after the gym and basically drove like mario andretti to get to the ####ing bathroom 30 minutes later?
TMI...I have.
I've found to be super temperamental to Whey, im either solid, or its goin DOWN. The strange part is I dont have a weak stomach towards eating.

That stuff is crazy expensive. If not that brand, you can definitely find quality hemp protein at grocery stores, health food stores, etc. I think pea protein is cheaper and I know a serious bodybuilder who uses Superstore brand.
If you have problems digesting whey there's a good chance it's due to some degree of lactose intolerance, which can be worsened by the fact you probably have an empty stomach after working out. Whey can still be an option though. Anything that's a pure whey isolate will be low enough in lactose that it's basically negligible and thus usually solves the digestion problems. These will run on the more expensive side for whey but it will still be magnitudes cheaper than the hemp stuff especially after you calculate cost per gram of actual protein. If you ask at Popeye's they might be able to give you a couple samples to try before you buy a tub.

Can't speak about the Hemp protein, but I do take Alpha Brain. The first week after taking it I did notice differences at work. I was able to focus more, and be able to think much quicker. After the second week and so on I didnt notice as much of an impact. However I find if you only take it on days that you need it (important meeting at work, busy schedule, etc) then I found I was able to preform much better than normal. I do have to take 2-3 at once depending on what I'm doing that day.
I tried taking it a couple hours before bed and did notice some crazy dreams at night, however I'd wake up in the middle of the night in an intense night sweat. Now I dont take it after work.
The stuff isnt cheap so I try to make it last as long as possible by using it only at work on days I really need to focus.
