Looks like the boat lost power and slammed into the marina just beside the terminal.
If it lost total power, how was it steered away from the terminal? Having been through there a few times, it gets pretty busy even woth foot traffic, and there's not a lot of place to go if that ferry was headed directly at the terminal.

Thankfully it was steered clear, but a bunch of boats were crushed, hopefully no-one in them at the time.

Sounds like it lost power a fare ways off, and just used its rudders, under the momentum it was carrying, to steer clear of the dock.

But wow, what a scene. My parents used to live just up the coast from there at Gibsons Landing. Been on that ferry too many times to count. Never thought something like that would ever happen!!

Uncanny. Hope everyone is alright.

I didn't realize there was a Queen of Oak Bay. That's the name of my municipality. Pretty big ferry too. Would have been bizzarre for the passengers on board.

Took them seven hours to unload the ferry and then it is out of commission.
The reverse rudders ? didn't work.
I am so glad I was not going to the island this week.

Are they ever going to get those ferries figured out and functioning like ,...
good.

What does it cost now to get to Vic or Nanaimo?
Maybe a bridge is the way.

The people of Victoria would never approve a bridge. And of course the cost is prohibitive.

With a bridge we would be just another suburb of the dump Vancouver. Soon our schools would have no white people like in Vancouver.

Not gonna happen.

Edit: And the last time I took the SB/Ts ferry it was 10 bucks for a foot passenger and 25 or 30 bucks for a car. I think it's a little less for Duke Pt/Departure Bay.

Idiot? Just speaking the truth. My aunt is a teacher somewhere in Greater Vancouver (No, not even in Richmond or Surrey), and she went three years without a single white kid in her class. And she says there's never more than three or four of them.

Obviously this is not indicative of the whole city, but I'm pretty sure it's indicative of most of it.

Now I have nothing against Asians or East Indians, but I would prefer not to be the only white person and the only person who is EFL in the class.

No, Mustard was right. You sir are a f'ing idiot.

"Nothing against Indians or Asians." THAT IS SOMETHING AGAINST INDIANS AND ASIANS! NOT WANTING TO BE A SUBURB OF VANCOUVER BECAUSE THEY WILL BE IN YOUR SCHOOLS IS SOMETHING AGAINST THEM!

This is not like even a third of the city. There is TWO schools in all of the Vancouver and Greater Vancouver area that is like this. I know this because both my dad and step-dad work for the school board, I went to school there and I know people that go to school there, and I'm 19 meaning I am just a year out.

Your intolerence disturbs me.

If not wanting to be a minority in my own country is intolerant, then colour me intolerant I guess.

Multiculturalism is one thing, but when the scales tip so far in the other direction it isn't really multiculturalism anymore is it?

What I find sad is that Alberta is stereotyped as a redneck xenophobic area, but no one on this board from Alberta acts that way. But a BC is supposed to be all up in that equality stuff and person from BC who posts here...

Egads.

I'll quell your fears little one: You are no where near being a minority in your own country. We still outnumber them immigrants!

One of the forces that has required us to bring in so many immigrants is that the white birthrate is so low and I don't see this changing. We need their tax dollars. How else do you expect to pay for mine and fellow babyboomers pensions. Get over it and go out and do your part to help populate Canada.

Oh my! I am so impressed with the stupidity of this comment. The best part is you had time to think it through before you typed it, and you then go on to defend it.

I think this a more appropriate time than ever....

Happy Canada Day Evman...

Well here's a truth for yah - This land was not a white man's land to begin with so in eccence you and me are the landed immigrants here.

I see Chinese, East Indians, Blacks, Hispanics, etc, proudly carrying around our Canadian flags on Canada day today and you bring this STUPID thing up.

I hope somebody bans your arse from this board.

that is the thing some of the proudest canadians I have ever met are imigrants to this nation, and they are treated like crap often times to be honest with you. My neighbor has a masters of engineering from Syria but can't use it because it isn't respected anywhere. Right now she is going to Sait just to get a job in the industry where she should be having people knocking down her door to hire her. I don't care if they are asian, african, european, south american... if they are proud to be Canadian, and they follow the laws of the nation, and they go through the processes set out then they are more than welcome by me.

And as has been said before talk to the aboriginal population about being a minority in their nation...

everyone is just as much of a Canadian as you are. It isn't your country, it is everyone country no matter as to what their background is, or how they became Canadian.
