Shot by people thinking they were breaking an entering perhaps? I just don't see why ANYone would shoot a firefighter, even gangs or something like that. Just makes no sense.

If the fire goes out too soon, less evidence destroyed OR "I want to kill someone. I think I'll start a fire, pick a high spot to watch and then pick off the firefighters as they come in."

Those are my completely uneducated theories.

I may be out to lunch on this, but I remember hearing there are a few places in the US that if there is a fire or medical emergency, they will not respond unless police are present. I doubt this town is one of those places, but for some reason I remember hearing that it can be very dangerous for first responders in certain places.

Or the shooter set the fire to lure first responders to the scene so he could shoot them down.

Probably training for the expected volunteer openings at local schools.

The NRA is going to come out and say something stupid such as the firefighters should be carrying handguns when responding to domestic situations

CNN saying the shooter set a trap, shot four firefighters and then killed himself.

This would never have happened if the firemen had their concel and carry permits. This was a gun free zone. Firearm bans only protect criminals.

I'll take a wild guess and say the shooter used and AR type gun.
