Default La Casita Mexicana

It looks like there will be a daily deal for this. Do not buy the voucher for La Casita Mexicana. I bought a voucher from them months ago but didn’t have time to use it until this past Saturday.
I called last week to make a reservations for eight and advised them that there would be one voucher.
My wife and I were the first couple there (couple minutes before 6pm) and they didn’t have our reservation.
No problem, the waiter just put two tables of four together.
The other couples arrive intermittently and we were never asked if we wanted any drinks.
One couple came right at six and she ordered a coffee right away because she had a headache
He came with a jug of water to fill our glasses but still didn’t take our drink order and didn’t say anything about the coffee
I had to go find him and tell him that we were ready to order our drinks. He said okay.
He came near our table but stopped at another one to take a couple’s order.
He then went to the back. I had to find him again to tell him we wanted to order drinks
When he got to our table he finally took our order.
We asked about the coffee and he said it was coming, but he was writing it down so I think he just forgot about it.
He came back with the coffee and asked her if she wanted any cream. She said yes. This never came and neither did our drinks
I had to go find him again to tell him we wanted to order food and asked how long our drinks would be. He said right away.
He walked towards our table but stopped to take another table’s order and just walked away.
I had to find him again and told him we needed to order quickly and go since we had a show at 8pm
He came to our table (without our drinks or cream)
I asked him how long would the food take and he said the cook injured himself (cut his finger) so the food will take awhile
So we just went next door to Bob the Fish.
There were other tables that were clearly frustrated with the slow service too.
It looked like he was the only front of the house employee for both the Mexican side and Wicked Chile.
I think he was the bartender too.

I read some of the reviews of this restaurant on Urbanspoon and it is not good at all.
You should read the stories. They’re pretty comical actually

I don’t know if I even want to go back to use my voucher. Might just eat the $20 loss. Or next time I’m DT with buddies, just go there and get a crapload of alcohol.
Or even try a weekday evening. But the restaurant wasn’t busy at all on Saturday so I can’t see the service being much better during the week

My story is nothing compared to the other stories on Urbanspoon from people that actually stayed to eat

Try getting a refund on your unused voucher. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks !... My wife and I love Mexican food and usually try any new restaurant.

You expect bad service at a Mexican restaurant, but the food needs to be good.

I think I bought it months ago. I'm sure there must be a 90 day refund policy or something like that

IS there a good Mexican restaurant in Calgary?

I was in San Diego in the summer for a few weeks and got spoiled by the easy access to good Mexican food.

I'm not talking about fancy upscale stuff, I mean a place that just makes great carne asada.

Salt and Pepper may be the closest in Calgary.

The other one in 17th, above Ming (I forget what it's called) is kinda hit and miss too.

EDIT: (Heh, or am I thinking of the same one?)

Dealfind is pretty good at refunding vouchers. Give them a call. They might be able to help you out.

Los Mariachis Restaurant on Macleod is good. I'm taking my wife for lunch there tomorrow.

I like Tu Tierra on Heritage Dr. and Fairmont Dr. but I can't speak to their Carne Asada.

Pretty much the exact same experience we had there, except it was a weekday and we were the only table. How do they ever expect to survive??

I went to El Sombrero at 17th Ave a few weeks ago. Food was pretty good.

Although, one of the waitresses seems to highly dislike spanish people and was somewhat rude to me. Glad we had another waitress after that.

Poor service, small, dark and lots of fruit flies, but their food is great.

Best we've found in Calgary is Tu Tierra - Fairmont and Heritage SE. Don't order appetizers, because the entrees are enormous.

Salsita (Boca Loca before) on 14th ST NW has a good mexi-deli - take home food.

Julio's Barrio in Kensington (on the corner of Memorial and 10th ave where Red Robin's used to be) I find to be amazingly good. Their fajitas are the best I've had in Calgary so far.

Ha, Tu Tierra is literally wthin walking distance of my house but I've never been there. I think we were scared by the fact that the previous restaurant occupant of that location was a chinese place that was scary at best. Went to Los Mariachis last Monday, service was actually pretty okay, food was good but a little excessive on the sauces. Went to Salt and Pepper on Wednesday for lunch. Food was decent but the service was absolutely ridiculous. Table of 10, forgot two drinks and never seemed to notice that people were sitting without drinks. Food at lunch took 55min from ordering for tacos on their all-you-can-eat taco day, and missed three of the food orders that took another 20 min. Nobody got to have seconds on tacos as we were there for over an hour before we even got our food. And it wasn't real busy. There were 4-5 tables and two servers...

I have to disagree - worst mexican food I have had. It is made in Edmonton, frozen, and then sent to the Calgary location. Julio's is ok for drinks, but I woudn't go out of my way to eat there. The fajitas might be ok, but avoid everything else.

Agreed. Best tasting thing I had there was the complimentary chips. The menu itself was over priced.
