Default 7.7 Earthquake off B.C. Coast

It appears that a magnitude 7.7 quake has occurred off the B.C. coast. Closest town appears to be Masset (Haida Gwaii or Queen Charlotte Islands).

Info is still limited.

US Geological Survey Page

Not much Tsunami info at the moment. Here.

Edit: Tsunami warning now for B.C. Coast. Here And Here.

Biggest danger in all of this is the tsunami potential.

We'll see if people have to make widespread evacuations.

Hours likely. Simply due to practical reasons. Tsunami would be much later I would imagine

Here's a list of communities. I believe Sandspit and Queen Charlotte City have been ordered to go to higher ground.

What's strange is that with all our news channels the only one I could find any reports are from the weather network.

How long will it take for the shaking to reach Vancouver?

Should I get under my table yet? Will the internet still work?

My family lives in Chetwynd, BC (2 hours west of Grand Prairie) and they could feel the aftershocks that far away (gentle mind you - swaying of blinds no windows etc)

I never felt it here. It strange how these quakes travel. I felt the one by Vancouver Island for a couple of minutes and it was far milder.

Yeah, CBC is pretty weak but CTV is still on the potential east coast hurricane.
