After making a preseason trade to add Patrik Elias to the roster the experiment only lasted 5 games. Elias was the only player on the roster to go scoreless through 5 games and was a -3 over that span. The Pens received a lot of interest from the Western Conference for Elias's service. In the end 6 teams made offers, but the Pens ended up going with the deal that added the best depth going forward.

Elias is heading to Chicago in return for Martin Erat and Nik Antropov. The Pens feel adding two vets to the lineup will help the team with better depth moving ahead.

Thanks to Jason for the smooth talks and hopefully Elias fits in better over there.

Good deal for both teams. Hate that Chi just got a 6ov upgrade on the top line though!

All three players in the trade will be UFAs at seasons end. There is a better chance of me offering a grid deal to Elias, than to either Antropov or Erat. I gave up two good players, but feel I'll be happy with the deal both short and long term.

The Pens are definitely the team to beat, with incredible depth. Thanks to Jeff for another smooth deal.
